Hi,
after upgrading with yum upgrade my server doesn´t boot with kernel 2.6.9-42.0.2.plus.c4 d. Kernel CentOS-4 x86_64 (2.6.9-34.EL) works just fine. I use 2 HDD as RAID1. Unfortunaly this is a root server so i do not have any console output. This is rather disappointing cause i run mission critical applications on the server. I guess the updates should be used with more caution.
Regards,
Christian

Obviously your expectations are just a bit unrealistic.

Running a mission critical server with anything in the plus repo is less than optimal. Plus "might" break things, that is why there is a plus repo.

A few words of advise:
1) Always try updates on a sandbox before putting them on your production servers. You always have a good chance of updates breaking things, be it CentOS, Oracle, Microsoft, Solaries, AIX or anything else. Just naming a few I had past experiences of breakage on update.
2) Consider everything outside the Base repository as UNSTABLE. If it were stable enough, it would be on the Base repository.
Anyway, good luck. I hope things get fixed for you soon.

I think i was misunderstood. I didn´t want to blame anybody and i´m aware that such situations can occure. Rodrigo, thank you for your advise. I will deactivate the plus repos for the future.
Kind regards,
Christian

I didn't think you were. I only thought you were illadvised.

firstly, why are you running the plus kernel ? what functionality are you using from the .plus kernel that is missing from the stock kernel ?
also what Arch is this ? and do you have any custom drivers that are missing ?
and finally, at what point of the boot cycle does the boot process fail ? error messages and logs would be nice.
