It appears to be a clear-cut case of market confusion, which is exactly what trademark law is intended to prevent.

Groupon's Trade mark request for 'Gnome' for computer software etc. etc.
Don't know about the USA but within the EU, Groupon do not have a hope of ever obtaining 'G-NOME' for computer systems, computer software, computer applications and similar.
