Is there a "built in" application for X/gnome/KDE that given a text string scroll it across the desktop? a command line program that did this would be exactly what I'm looking for.
Is there anything like this? THanks,
Jerry

Maybe knewsticker can be what you need. You only have to provide the correct rdf with the message you want to display on all machines... and voila!

Does anyone know if there are any Ruby on Rails rpms for CentOS?
I could follow the instructions on the RoR's website, but then I am installing something that won't show up in my rpm db. http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/Ruby+and+Rails+on+Red+Hat+Enterprise...
I was hoping that there was a purely rpm based solution to getting it installed.
Thanks, Ash Christopher

Thanks for the response. This doesn't really solve the problem though as it leaves your system with software installed that isn't recorded in the rpm database.
A year from now, how might one easily remove said software, and be sure that is isn't lingering.
It seems the solution is, roll the rpms yourself.

I'd just install from source, personally. I'm a Ruby programmer in training and I've found that works best.
