Hello,
What is the simpliest way to run Redhat 7.3 server as CentOS 5 domU?
I see that Xen emulates Intel PIIX ATA controller for HVM domUs but latest kernel of Redhat 7.3 (2.4.20-20.7smp) has no ata_piix kernel module yet. Is it possible to download it somewhere or there is another way? :)
And I'd like to avoid reinstalling them with the new OS. Preferably they'd just die their own death in their little domUs. :)
Regards,

In case you don't get this to work, I've replaced a few of these good old boys with CentOS 3.x running under VMware server and everything pretty much continued to work as-is, even CIPE tunnels that went away in later releases.

Run it under vmware. Redhat enterprise 2.1 has never been supported in RHEL's Xen. And RHEL 2.1 is based off of redhat 7.3

Surely under hvm, Xen does not care much about whats under the hood. Also, EL2.1 is no longer supported - and CentOS-3 comes with most of the compat- stuff needed to keep C2.1 stuff going... so C3 would make for a better candidate ( imho )

Qemu would probably be your best bet for incompatible hardware. Since the red hat 7.3 is no longer supported and has lots of security issues you may be good to just update the kernel to something newer in the 2.4 series and play around with that.

If they haven't died in 7 years.. they won't die on their own. [I mean I had someone try to get me to do 6.2 onto vmware last year.]

Well I took kernel from CentOS3 (thanks for the idea) installed it into RH7.3 host and HVM started and seems to be working in test mode. Both disk and network seems to be working.
What else could go wrong in such setup? Kernel changed minimally from 2.4.20-20.7 to 2.4.21-63.
