Does anyone here use a Samba4 setup for single sign-on for MS_Win workstations and CentOS-6 boxes? Does anyone here use it for imap and/or smtp authentication? We are experimenting with replacing our existing Microsoft domain controllers with Samba4 based controllers and are contemplating moving all authentication for all our systems, Microsoft and CentOS based, over to Samba when, or if, this replacement successfully completes.
Does anyone have any references for using CentOS with Samba domain controllers that they can recommend? I have found some but the few I have found tend to be Samba3 specific.

I would have to ask why you're doing such a thing in the first place? You have a perfectly good working Active Directory setup, that people are already familiar with, I suspect with existing MS clients which integrate fully (and "properly") and you want to replace it with a Samba based setup. Unless you have a relatively simple setup, I would say don't change. However, if you are looking to move to something else, then do that. Why fix to Samba? Why not go with a full on Kerberos/LDAP environment?
FWIW, we use CentOS 6 with Active Directory Authorization. Things have worked fine for us for about 1 year. It took a VERY long time to get setup and working, but it is now.

That is so cool!
Could you keep us updated on your progress on this? Thanks.
FWIW, while I dabbled with Samba3 I never could get it to work properly with our AD. Turns out, the AD was set to a security model Samba3 couldn't handle.
Has this been resolved with Samba4?

Yes to all of these, using sssd on CentOS, for about 18 months now. It works very well. We have two DC's on CentOS, no Windows DC's. No winbind. I can post the sssd.conf if anyone is interested.

Sorry, I did sent my previous message too early.
Your problem description lacks a lot of detail.
Where do you take netcdf from? The EPEL repository provides it. If you use that package and binaries fail, you should contact the EPEL packager and provide a bug report.
"some OS error" is very unspecific.
Start by asking yourself: "What kind of information would I need if someone else has this problem and searches for support?" Then provide this information actively.
Kind regards
Alexander

Your problem description lacks a lot of detail.
Where do you take netcdf from? The EPEL repository provides it. If you use that package and binaries fail, you should contact the EPEL

"some OS error" is very unspecific.

On the CentOS website homepage there is a BIG and bright orange button that says "Get CentOS Linux Now". Maybe try to click on it...
i had used all the resources as below and when i had all the untar in a directories and then ./configure the netcdf file so it fives x lib developer is missing and some x11 library is also missing etc so please help me...
If you miss dev libraries... install them. By example: yum install libX11-devel
If you need to find which package provides a given file: yum whatprovides *FILENAME
Also, if you want detailed answers, ask detailed questions.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'with window 8', but VMware player or Virtualbox will probably let you run another OS as a guest. To find downloads, just click the i386 or x86_64 links from: http://wiki.centos.org/Download You can use the dvd images for your choice of fairly complete system type installs, or take the minimal CD image for a quick install where you can add any of the other packages via 'yum install' or 'yum groupinstall'.

OK, the _first_ thing you need to do is look at the EPEL (Extra Packages for Enterprise Linux) section of http://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalResources/Repositories. And understand that the rpm packages in that repository do not overwrite any base system packages (although they may conflict with other 3rd party packages). These packages are known to work on RHEL/CentOS - something you can't say for some random tarball you compile yourself.
After you install the epel-release package, you can use 'yum search packagename', 'yum info packagename', yum install packagename, etc., and subsequent 'yum update' runs will do the right things. Or if you want to do it the hard way you can download the individual rpm packages, install them in dependency order, and watch for updates yourself.
um, you could 'yum' your X11 binaries. make sure to also run your updates...
yum update very nice to do for your system.. after you take a 'snapshot' if a VM and it SHOULD BE by now...
.. um, also, you need to load development packages as it needs to 'make' and compile those packages unique to your system -- which is the purpose.
Also, er, it's all documented.
This is the only response I will write to this thread as very little reading was done indeed, I suspect...

<snip> Oh. And where did you get the tarballs? Everyone, I think, has been assuming you did a yum install of the packages. Installing from a tarball can, sometimes, be... "interesting", because a) some of them are written and built on someone's system that is NOT standard, or, more frequently, built on some other distro, like current fedora, or worse, ubuntu, and so some libraries required are *MUCH newer than are standard on an enterprise o/s, which doesn't put newer ones in until they're no longer half-baked. <g>
Is there something that the versions from the tarballs provide that the ones from the standard repos (base, epel, rpmfusion) don't provide?

From what he said he is not allowed to update the system by his 'head'
(presumably he means his boss). I wonder why? That's presumably why he is trying to install from the tarballs. In later posts he has changed tack and started talking about installing CentOS, presumably on his own machine (which makes sense). Les directed him to vmware or virtualbox. Sounds like a beginner and there might be a language barrier. We've all been there at one time!
Cheers,
Cliff

Yes to all of these, using sssd on CentOS, for about 18 months now. It works very well. We have two DC's on CentOS, no Windows DC's. No winbind. I can post the sssd.conf if anyone is interested.
