?that is why you are supposed to not make changes to that file but rather
>put any changes/new entries in /etc/udev/rules.d/10-udev.rules (or any
>file that alpha sorts prior to 50-udev.rules

ok that is fine... I had just followed the directions in the zaptel 
README.udev file
back when I installed asterisk.
