You can build a popular extension like eaccelerator
for 5.0.4 (already in centosplus). I found 5.0.4 in
the centosplus to be quite stable and even built my
own eacclerator but I moved on to try out 5.1.x

Improve the mailing list by performing a simple search 
before posting and reading the FAQ/etiquette. Protect the
integrity of your installation with the yum plugins.
