Other HDs are OK and work reliably. It's hard to make sense of random behavior. I'd still guess it is some hardware-related issue. You might get a hint from /var/log/messages if you look at what happened (or didn't) when it is hung compared to older startups that worked, but there will be a lot to wade through. -- Les Mikesell lesmikesell at gmail.com
