the choices leads to the problem called hick's law :-)
but seriously i do not want to dive into the discussion of
the different repository goals.  should explain all what
you need and i am sure that CentOS is great as a desktop OS!
I can suggest it because my primary requirement is maturity
and long-term support. Just try it (e.g. only with rpmforge
