1. Bad Things™  happen sometimes.  If you are root, Worse Things™ can happen than what might happen if you are not root.

2. It's just basic common sense to use the root access to the minimum extent possible.  (See Step 1)

3. Since it's not necessary to compile software as root -- goto Step 1.
