  To get mate to show up use the follow text in your

  ~.vnc/xstartup file:

  xsetroot -solid grey
  vncconfig -iconic &
  x-terminal-emulator -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
  mate-session &
