No one is making the command line any harder to use than it used to be.
You can still use the old methods to allow non-root users to mount
devices. The developers are just adding new means that don't require
SUID binaries. I don't think they should be faulted for making a new,
user-friendly mechanism for a task without breaking the semantics of the
old mechanisms.
