I've never used tmux so can't help there. The first thing I do when I log on to a remote machine is to launch a screen session - either reattach to an already running session or create a new one: screen -DR akk This is now part of my DNA - never run a single command on a remote machine unless you are in a screen session - one never knows when power will fail. ak.
