one feature that I've been working on in duffy is to allow users to
provide their own kickstart. That way you can request a node, submit a
new kickstart against it and then wait out the 5 - 8 minutes it takes
to re-deploy; that way duffy does not need to block, and we dont need
to change the hot-standby configs

the plan was to have atomic host available in the cloud environ, i
should have that setup ( based on david's work ) for testing soon.
