New Mirror

We have setup a new CentOS mirror. We synchronize 6 times a day, and have 200Mbits of available bandwidth. The server is located in Richmond, VT, USA and is hosted by Green Mountain Access, http://www.greenmountainaccess.net/ URL's are: http://mirrors.greenmountainaccess.net/centos/ ftp://mirrors.greenmountainaccess.net/centos/ rsync://mirrors.greenmountainaccess.net/centos I have one question/issue: When I hit a different server for example centosi2 vs centosq it resets the numeric user ID from 500 to 501 and back and forth. I take it there is probably a user name associated with the files. If so what would that user name be? Rsync Pull as Non-Root

Hey There, We would like to setup our rsync pull operation to run from a non-root user as suggested by a recent entry here. The owner:group of our current mirror files is 502:502 which is likely preserved from the source of the rsync pull. I need to make sure the mirroring software is not sensitive to this owner:group combination. If this is the case, we will likely (1) create a new user and group of rsync:rsync; (2)change the ownership of the all the mirror files to rsync:rsync; and (3) run the rsync pull operation from the cron of the rsync user. Is there anything else we need to be sensitive to as we make this change? Please note that the mirror files reside in an anonymous ftp directory and are accessed by ftp, http and rsync services. Rsync is running as a standalone read only daemon. Thanks! Greg

We set up a new public CentOS mirror with http access. We have a 1 Gigabit connection to the public Internet and a connection to Internet2. centosr2 mirror out of date

Just noticed that my mirror synced with centosr2 this morning (via msync.centos.org) and lost all the updates from yesterday. The timestamp on centosr2 is Wed Jul 23 06:10:01 UTC 2008. Regards, Mike
