rng-tools missing and /dev/hwrng without driver

Hi, today I will report a problem that is released to ipa-server. This server contains a certificate authority and such service need many entropy. The default on CentOS 7 on a Banana PI is not enough, i.e. $(cat /proc/sys/kernel/random/entropy_avail) is less than 1000. I have solved this in meantime by installing and enabling of haveged from the EPEL repository. Normally it would be done by installing the rng-tools. But there are two problems: 1. The rng-tools was not in the repositories, so I have downloaded rng-tools-5-8.fc24.armv7hl.rpm because this are the same version which is included in CentOS 7.3 for x86_64. 2. This rng-tools are usable but the daemon starts and stops immediately with the following error message: # rngd -v /dev/hwrng: No such device /dev/tpm0: No such file or directory No entropy sources found, exiting This is not the problem of this binary it is a problem of the Kernel. /dev/hwrng exists and if I remove it then it reappears after reboot, but # ls -l /dev/hwrng crw-------. 1 root root 10, 183 1. Jan 1970 /dev/hwrng # udevadm info -a -n /dev/hwrng Udevadm info starts with the device specified by the devpath and then walks up the chain of parent devices. It prints for every device found, all possible attributes in the udev rules key format. A rule to match, can be composed by the attributes of the device and the attributes from one single parent device. looking at device '/devices/virtual/misc/hw_random': KERNEL=="hw_random" SUBSYSTEM=="misc" DRIVER=="" ATTR{rng_current}=="none" ATTR{rng_available}=="" there is no driver for this device. I have searched and found this link http://forum.lemaker.org/thread-23618-1-1.html which includes a link to the full story. If I read all right then on bananian /dev/hwrng appears only if the adapted or a more actual sun4i-ss.ko module is loaded (there is written: "module author has indicated this will be going into the mainline kernel shortly“). This module is also loaded on a Banana PI with current CentOS 7. So does the kernel of CentOS 7.3 for ARM32 include this patch and if yes why it does not work or otherwise why this device appears but has no driver? EPEL repo not available?

Can anybody verify that the EPEL repo for ARMHFP isn’t available? I keep getting an error saying the REPOMD file isn’t there when running yum. It works if I use —disablerepo=epel\* when using yum. But, there might be some stuff in the EPEL that I’m looking for. Running it on a Raspberry Pi 3 and trying to get Nagios installed for home use. Domo, Boyd H. Gigabyte MP30-AR0

Hi, I am toying with the idea of getting a Gigabyte MP30-AR0 board (despite the insanely exorbitant price tag). Has anyone got the aarch64 CentOS working on one of those? Any special instructions? Also, if I get the ISO, is it bootable on aarch64? Does the installer work? Or does the image have to be used like on 32-bit ARM? Thanks. Gordan

x2go on Raspberry Pi

Folks I am trying to get the "x2go" package onto a RPI-3 server, so that I can have some form of remote GUI interface. Although "x2go" installs with no diagnostics, I can't find a GUI package that installs. I believe that x2go requires some form of gui desktop package on the server. I have tried MATE, GNOME, KDE Plasma Workspaces, and XFCE4, and all have unsatisfied dependencies. Hi Jim, ACPI support for the Marvell Armada 7k/8k NIC finally landed in the mainline kernel. I backported all required stuff from the upstream to v4.11 and I'm about to create patch that adds a support in the kernel. Please check if my understanding of adding the patch is sufficient: 1. Place squashed patch in SOURCES/ 2. Update SPECS/kernel-alt.spec with the added patch ("5a27f64 - adds thunderx support patch per cavium list request" is a good reference for that) 3. Update: SOURCES/kernel-alt-4.11.0-aarch64-debug.config SOURCES/kernel-alt-4.11.0-aarch64.config And here's where I have problems. I took kernel-alt-4.11.0-aarch64.config to my v4.11 branch and tried to first build kernel directly from that point - it cannot be done flawlessly, as one have to manually choose multiple kernel CONFIGs resolution. Further I wanted to use make menuconfig enabled CONFIG_ARCH_MVEBU=y and CONFIG_MVPP2=m. It would be great, if you were able to let know, what's the easiest and quickest way to apply and test new patches on top of sig-altarch7-aarch64 branch. Thanks, Marcin

Apologies for taking so long to return to this thread, it took way longer than expected to get to the machine and get it up and running again. I also just updated the build to the latest 4.9.60. Here is a download link to both binaries and src.rpm (download the kernel tarball from kernel.org manually to build from src.rpm): http://ftp.redsleeve.org/pub/misc/kernel/aarch64/RPMS/ http://ftp.redsleeve.org/pub/misc/kernel/aarch64/SRPMS/ To recap - I am also running with Tianocore EFI chain-loaded from u-boot, and mainling 4.9.x boots just fine on it. No need for disabling ACPI on the kernel command line, no need to run EFI firmware as a 1st stage boot loader, it just works. Do feel free to try it - if that works for you but the distro supplied 4.5.x kernel doesn't, it seems reasonably conclusive that it is the CentOS kernel that is broken for this board. I'd also be interested in learning whether you have any luck getting PCIe cards to work with it without problems - I haven't tried it since upgrading to 4.9.x, but certainly on 4.4.x mainline the machine used to reliably lock up as soon as the driver for the PCIe card loads. CentOS 7 with Linux 4.14

Hi, I'd like to try to install CentOS on an Odroid Xu4 board I have. The board is supposed to be supported by the mainline 4.14 kernel. From what I've gathered, it should be possible to build an image with the 4.14 kernel (possibly taken from Fedora) and a CentOS 7 system. But I haven't found instructions on how to go about assembling such an image. Could anyone give any pointers? Or would I be better off just using Fedora?
