Hi, I am toying with the idea of getting a Gigabyte MP30-AR0 board (despite the insanely exorbitant price tag). Has anyone got the aarch64 CentOS working on one of those? Any special instructions? Also, if I get the ISO, is it bootable on aarch64? Does the installer work? Or does the image have to be used like on 32-bit ARM? Thanks. Gordan

When is that transition and next release supposed to happen? Attempt to install Xfce by hand

You may have seen my posts around on my challenges to build a couple groups to do a group install. That got me to realize, that I probably know which rpms to install and I could 'do it by hand' for now. So first step was: yum install glx-utils initial-setup-gui mesa-dri-drivers plymouth-system-theme spice-vdagent xorg-x11-drivers xorg-x11-server-Xorg xorg-x11-utils xorg-x11-xauth xorg-x11-xinit xvattr tigervnc-server wayland-protocols-devel xorg-x11-drv-keyboard xorg-x11-drv-libinput xorg-x11-drv-mouse xorg-x11-drv-openchrome Where xorg-x11-drv-openchrome was not available, but is flagged optional in the group. This installed 16 packages and 263 dependents. Next the actual Xfce: yum install Thunar xfce-utils xfce4-panel xfce4-session xfce4-settings xfconf xfdesktop xfwm4 gdm leafpad openssh-askpass orage polkit-gnome thunar-archive-plugin thunar-volman tumbler xfce4-appfinder xfce4-icon-theme xfce4-power-manager xfce4-session-engines xfce4-terminal xfwm4-theme-nodoka xfwm4-themes pinentry First this showed: No package xfce-utils available. No package leafpad available. No package thunar-archive-plugin available. No package xfce4-icon-theme available. No package xfwm4-theme-nodoka available. No leafpad is OK, as a check shows that mousepad is available and this is what is in Fedora28. No xfce-utils is not good. I do not have the skill sets to do it. But having Xcfe would be great for an armv7 SOC over Gnome!

Cubieboard5 performance

has anyone here tried out the octa-core Cubieboard5? Does Centos work with all those cores for better multitasking than the duo-core A20 boards? One of my Cubieboard2 is dying and I CAN replace it with one of my test boards. But my mail server does struggle with only 2 cores for all the virus scanning. If I had more cores, I could lift the attachment limit, perhaps. I just saw a deal on the Cubieboard5, cheaper than the Cubietruck. Or info on any other quad board. thanks

New kernel takes ~130MB!

I just installed the new kernel on one of my Cubieboard2s. /boot used grew ~130MB. Challenge is that my next board to update only has 43MB free. It currently has 3 kernels on it. Is there a way to cleanly delete old kernel files prior to the update? In this case 4.9.30-203? thanks

Updated Centos7-armv7 install howto

I have finally updated my howto at: http://www.htt-consult.com/Centos7-armv7.html Thanks to the excellent Centos armhfp site, I was able to pull out a lot of the basic setup instructions. Thanks for your work putting that site up. Please go over and take a look; all comments will be welcomed (but not necessarily acted on! :) ). Thank you for providing the code that makes running Centos7 on armv7 boards possible. It would be nice if EPEL could move along. Perhaps when I retire (in a year or 2), I will take on learning how to help there. I have one other project to tackle before I can restart my mailserver effort.

Boot Raspberry Pi image in KVM on CentOS 7

Hello, I am trying to boot the Raspberry Pi image in qemu KVM on CentOS7. I converted the image to a qcow2 file system, extracted the /boot directory and tried to boot. I am using the following command: $ sudo virt-install --name centos7_armhfp \ --memory 4096 \ --boot kernel=/var/lib/libvirt/armhfp-boot/boot/vmlinuz-4.14.28- 201.el7.centos.armv7hl,initrd=/var/lib/libvirt/armhfp- boot/boot/initramfs-4.14.28- 201.el7.centos.armv7hl.img,kernel_args="console=ttyAMA0 rw root=/dev/sda3" \ --disk /var/lib/libvirt/images/CentOS-Userland-7-armv7hl-Generic- Minimal-1708-guest.qcow2 \ --import \ --arch armv7l \ --machine virt \ --os-variant centos7.0 I get the following error: Starting install... ERROR unsupported configuration: qemu-xhci not supported in this QEMU binary Domain installation does not appear to have been successful. If it was, you can restart your domain by running: virsh --connect qemu:///system start centos7_armhfp otherwise, please restart your installation. I had to reboot a server this morning. I was working on one box and bumped things I should not have... Then I noticed my name server was not coming up real fast like normal. So I get on the console and notice it is waiting for something to start. It waited 3 min before giving up and getting everything else going. [ OK ] Started Import network configuration from initramfs. Starting Create Volatile Files and Directories... [ OK ] Started Create Volatile Files and Directories. Starting Security Auditing Service... [ *** ] A start job is running for Security...ting Service (3min 3s / 3min 8s) Then it takes off. I could scan the console capture if you need the messages immediately after it finally took off. But I have noticed this service failing to start on one of my other boxes, not not on the other two. So it revolves around something installed or not installed. But with this base of an install, perhaps you can figure out what the problem is? thanks

Hi all, Is there any way to know the compilation options used to build the kernel ? At least, on a x86_64, we have something like config-3.10.0-862.3.3.el7.x86_64 On raspberry, I did not find anything in /proc nor in /boot. Regards, Stephan.

What is ifcfg-link?

I went looking for /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 to set it up for static addressing. Instead I found ifcfg-link What is this? Machiatobin network interfaces

Hi, I was able to install centos on the machiatobin using the iso via efi. However no network interfaces show up, I also tried to plug in a usb wifi adapter, it is recognized in dmesg but still no network interface with command ip a (only shows loopback device) or cat /proc/net/dev. Any pointers greatly appreciated. I also tried going into bios and selecting ACPI setting in the device manager menu but no change... Also, as an aside, to be able to install using the iso I had to add kernel parameter console=ttyS0,115200n8 on boot as per this post: http://macchiatobin.net/forums/topic/feedback-on-uefi-boot-with-mini-iso/. Wasn't sure if it would be helpful to document that. Incidentally, that poster also saw no network interfaces. Thanks much.

update-boot?

The wiki says: Before centos-userland-release-7-5.1804, in order to activate the new kernel and edit /boot/extlinux/extlinux.conf, you had to run /usr/bin/update-boot. This is no longer valid and it is done automatically by grubby. But I just happened to look at /boot/grub/grub.conf default=0 timeout=5 splashimage=(hd0,1)/grub/splash.xpm.gz hiddenmenu title CentOS-Userland-7-armv7hl-generic-GNOME-1804 (4.14.28-201.el7.centos.armv7hl) root (hd0,1) kernel /vmlinuz-4.14.28-201.el7.centos.armv7hl ro root=UUID=be2c9311-e289-4cab-b878-89b522144d70 initrd /initramfs-4.14.28-201.el7.centos.armv7hl.img And I did the yum update that installed the 4.14.52 kernel. Should I run update-boot? /boot/klist.txt has: 4.14.28-201.el7.centos.armv7hl 4.14.52-201.el7.armv7hl

Request for the Xfce desktop

I am a proponent of Xfce, especially for armv7 boards. I got introduced to Xfce with Fedora-arm 19 (or was it 18 or even 17?). I did the Gnome image install, dropped to runlevel 3, installed vncserver, and do get the gnome desktop with my notebook taking most of the performance hit. But having at least the option of installing the minimal image then doing a group install "Xfce Desktop" would be great. BTW, I did 'yum list >y.lst' and 'grep -i xfce y.lst' and came up empty handed. Is Xfce even built for arm? thanks

Extending partition on SD card on Rpi-3

Hi Team, Being new to the Linux world, I have installed Centos for R Pi3 on a 16gb microSD card, and partitions are done by default, leaving less space for root file system. Here is what I get. This is the second time I am running into this issue. Can anyone help me with the steps to increase the size for /dev/root to 6G please. One change, perhaps, on the dd of the image. is it possible for the progress to be reported in MB, rather than bytes? It would be more valuable to humans (kind of like the -h option in some commands). thanks
