No ability to control desktop resolution with CentOS 7 on RPi3B (Xfce4)

My apologies in advance for what is undoubtedly a noob situation. I have downloaded and successfully loaded CentOS-Userland-7-armv7hl-RaspberryPI-Minimal-1908-sda.raw on my Pi 3B. I then loaded Xfce4 with X11. (Thank you to all here who have made this process so painless). However, I am using an HP L3065 monitor which has only dual-link DVI inputs. I have the HDMI-to-DVI adapter, so the system boots well. However, it will only display at a resolution of 1280x1024. There is no /boot/config.txt file for me to hack, and my attempts at using xrandr with either cvt or gtf has only generated error messages (e.g., "Failed to get size of gamma for output default"). My objective is to get the system to use 1920x1080. Is it better to use cvt or gtf for the parameters needed by xrandr? Should I create a /boot/config.txt file for the system? If so, is there a generic template for such a file? If you can offer any suggestions, I would be greatly appreciative. Joseph

I must correct what I said earlier about the versions of RPis I have. Should have waited until get back home instead of I depending on the picture from the screen with the errors. It took a bit of effort to check the version on actual hardware as all my 4 RPis are in Pi rack, so it's bit cramped and dusty now. So, checked it and my main testing device is RPi 3 model B v1.2, then tested booting Centos 8 twice really on RPIs 3 Model B+. Also have RPi 4 but for obvious reasons not even tried to boot Centos 8 on it. Now, earlier I got the BCM number from the logs that were displayed when booting Cenots 8, which do seem to be correct? As I just checked both test devices that are running Centos 7: RPi3B and RPi3B+, and they report in /proc/cpuinfo: 3B+: Hardware: BCM2835 Revision: a020d3 Model: Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Plus Rev 1.3 3B: Hardware: BCM2835 Revision: a02082 Model: Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Rev 1.2 Thanks, Marcin

All, I have tested the Centos 8 build it on 3 different RPi 3, two different SD cards, always ends up with kernel panic. I tested both cards and freshly installed Centos 7 and it works like a charm on any combination of my RPi3 and both sd cards. Is there alternative download other than http://mirror.freethought-internet.co.uk/centos-altarch/8.1.1911/isos/armhf… ? Centos 8 Userland + RPI 3+b

Hi All, I can see that Centos 8 Userland is available.I downloaded it but I did not manage to boot it, got into boot loop or it's just spewing messages and immediately clearing the screen or finally just nothing on the screen. Anyone successfully tried it? Is the root password the same as in Centos 7? Thanks Marcin

cgconfig and cgroup restoring seems broken

Has the way cgroups and cgconfig work changed in el8 from el7? I have this config file that works in el7: $ cat /etc/cgconfig.d/idle.conf # Configuration file generated by cgsnapshot group idle { perm { admin { uid = idle; gid = idle; } task { uid = idle; gid = idle; } } cpu { cpu.cfs_period_us="100000"; cpu.cfs_quota_us="-1"; cpu.shares="2"; } cpuacct { cpuacct.usage="0"; } } Running cgconfig in el8 doesn't seem to restore it. Is this a known bug? Is additional configuration needed somewhere else?

OpenHIP on Centos7 armv7hl

I am working on a project that will use HIP (rfc 7401 plus new drafts) for Unmanned Aircraft (see the tm-rid BOF for IETF106). I am going to need a server or two for this work, and of course I would rather use my Cubieboards as they are easy to carry to the Hackathon at IETF. My colleagues are for the most part Ubuntu based, so I am much on my own. And to boot, I just don't do builds often enough (like once a year or so). So tips on what I will need other than to install make? Anyone here in Singapore, stop by the IETF meeting the week of the 16th! thanks

CentOS repo list

Can anyone provide me with a listing of repos other than the ones on CentOS website? I have searched for some but was unsuccessful. I've also looked through GitHub but it's a hassle finding repositories that are still supported. Thanks. Christopher Tate
