Hello, I would like to request an rpm to be added to Automotive SIG RPM repository. ostree-compliance-mode is a tool designed to purge protected data, leaving the system in compliance with GPLv3. This will assist 3rd parties place non-GPLv3 applications on our OS, without necessarily having those components modifiable. Is mise le meas/Regards, Eric Curtin

Happy Anniversary, CentOS Automotive SIG!

Todays' monthly meeting was lightly attended as expected, and we didn't have a lot of technical topics to update, but I did want to send out the one thing we did cover. August marks the 1st anniversary of the CentOS Automotive SIG, and we have accomplished quite a lot over this first year. The first meeting was August 19, 2021, at which time there was no infrastructure at all and the group had just been voted into existence by the CentOS board. Now, one year later, we have a robust repository within the CentOS domain, open to contributions by the public - and indeed we had our first contributor from outside Red Hat over the past month, which is a great example of the value we hope we are bringing to automotive Linux development. In addition to the repositories, we have a strong nightly build structure providing a continuous stream of images that are easy to download and get running via QEMU or on a Raspberry Pi 4. The image uses Stream 9 components with a customized (real time) kernel, a good example of CentOS Stream based development, and a fun and interesting project. Congratulations to everyone involved with the SIG, and thanks again to CentOS for hosting it! Good Morning Everyone, Here is an update of what happened in the SIG last week: * The documentation on how to get an autosd image running on a raspberry pi 4 has been updated: https://sigs.centos.org/automotive/building/centos_stream_pi4/ * The webserver running behind https://autosd.sig.centos.org/ has been upgraded to a bigger machine using goofys for the s3 backend connection. [REPORT] Quarterly Report - CentOS Automotive SIG

June 2022 Quarterly report submitted by: Jefro Osier-Mixon, Red Hat - acting chair _____________________________________ Membership update This SIG does not have a formal membership process. The mailing list currently has 94 subscribers representing at least 30 organizations, though not all subscribers use corporate emails and some are participating as individuals. _____________________________________ Releases in the most recent quarter (or most recent release, if none in that quarter) The SIG provides a new distribution: Automotive Stream Distribution (AutoSD), a CentOS Stream derivative designed specifically around the needs of an automotive OS, and transparently the upstream project for Red Hat's eventual in-vehicle OS product. AutoSD has been downloaded and used by several organizations who have commented or asked for help, so we know it is getting some traction though of course we don't have exact metrics on usage. _____________________________________ Health report and general activity narrative. The SIG has had two public meetings per month, one formal and one informal "office hours", each with 25-40 attendees, with visible participation from 7-10 separate organizations. This SIG is intended to be a community effort with contributions and shared benefits from all participants. All formal meetings are recorded and posted on this page: https://wiki.centos.org/SpecialInterestGroup/Automotive/Meetings Several Red Hat employees made the initial contributions to the project as well as the infrastructure required to build and test it. We now occupy a gitlab repository building software regularly using CI, with build instructions provided on the documentation page at https://sigs.centos.org/automotive/ . Sample images are present and downloadable along with customization and build instructions. Good Morning Everyone, So here are some of the changes that we have worked on week: * Android devices vs chips shortage It is possible today to create Linux chroot on Android devices. With the chips shortage going on world wide, getting even a raspberry pi is problematic or expensive, there are, however, other aarch64 devices that could be used, some that have less shortage issues: android device. We are therefore looking at what it would take to do native builds insite a linux chroot running in an android device. So if that interests you, stay tune! Happy hacking! Pierre

Last week we work on enabling this and documenting it for Linux, this week we have made it work with Windows. Good Morning Everyone, So here are some of the changes that we have worked on this week: * Automatic resize of the '/' partition on raspberry pi Last week we worked on documenting how to resize the '/' partition after flashing an image onto a SD card for a raspberry pi. This week we worked on automatizing this. There is now a `pi_resize` RPM package, included by default on all of our raspberry pi images that will automatically resize the `/` partition to the full size of the SD card upon first boot (and will only do it once). Let us know if it doesn't work for you! * Encrypted images We have work on documentation on how to build images encrypted with luks. You can find it at: https://sigs.centos.org/automotive/building/encryption/ * Reducing linux-firwmare The linux-firmware package is a pretty big package containing binary firmware blob for a number of systems and cards, many more systems than those relevant for the automotive industry. We have thus split out some of the firmware from the linux-firmware package into a custom, smaller, `linux-firmware-automotive` package. Our images now use that package by default, however, if you want/need to use the full linux-firmware package, you can use the `linux_firmware_rpm` template variable to change the package name. * Raspberry pi as an USB gadget: An USB gadget is a mechanism by which one can interact with a device connected over USB as if it was a device connected on the network. To achieve this and make it convenient, we have adjusted the kernel-automotive configuration [1] to support the `libcomposite` module. We have also introduced a `pi_gadget` RPM package, which is available in the Automotive SIG's RPM repository. That package provides a script and a systemd service to automatically turn your raspberry pi into an USB gadget. Good Morning Everyone, So here are some of the changes that we have worked on last week: * Resizing the '/' partition: After flashing an image onto a SD card, by default the '/' isn't extended to the full size of the disk. The documentation at: https://sigs.centos.org/automotive/building/resize_partition/ provides instructions on how one can resize that partition to make use of the entire size of their SD card. * It is now possible to build external image manifest with the sample-image repo If you run make with the IMAGEDIR=/path/to/manifest/dir then the makefile will automatically pick up any manifest files there and build them just like the regular sample manifests. This makes it easier to maintain and experiment with your own manifests ouside of the repo. * All manifests now enable EFI runtime services The realtime kernel normally disables EFI runtime services because the kernel cannot make realtime guarantees about all possible EFI firmwares. However, supporting EFI is important, so the manifest now default to passing efi=runtime on the kernel commandline to enable this. * Ability to add custom prefixes to image builds If you prepend `@something` to the build target, like so: $ make cs9-qemu-minimal-ostree(a)sometag.x86_64.qcow2 That will be picked up as the resulting filename of the build, although the build is not affected in other ways. This is useful if you want to build a modified image, for example adding some rpms, and want to distinguish the resultant build from unmodified ones. * Lookaside cache structure on CentOS The work we have done to allow a structure in CentOS' lookaside cache which does not rely on a git branching structure as been announced on the centos-devel mailing list: https://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-devel/2022-April/120351.html Happy hacking!
