Cannot open root device "LABEL=/" on 00:00

I have Centos 3.3 installed on a vmware virtual machine on a AMD Opteron processor. I upgraded the kernel to version 2.4.21-27.0.2.EL, and now when I boot the system I get the following message: Cannot open root device "LABEL=/" Kernel panic: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on 00:00 The server boots fine with kernel-2.4.21-20. I've change the root=LABEL=/ to use the /dev/sda2, and it did not work. Does anyone has any ideas what causes the system not to boot? Thanks. Roberto DaSilva

grub/raid1 on centos4

With Centos3, fedora1/2 I have been able to put /boot on a RAID1 partition and have it boot normally. Unlike earlier versions that used lilo as the default boot loader, these did not make the 2nd drive bootable but at least I was fairly confident that if the first drive failed I could use the install CD in rescue mode to fix up the 2nd one and go on. However, Centos4 won't boot at all with a similar install attempt and running grub-install in rescue mode gives an error about not being able to find the bios drives. Is there a howto somewhere to work around this problem? -- Les Mikesell les(a)futuresource.com

Apache and TCP Wrappers

I'm trying to lock down Apache and SSH by using TCP Wrappers. I put /etc/hosts.allow to be httpd: IP#1 IP#2 127.0.0.1 sshd: IP#1 IP#2 127.0.0.1 and hosts.deny ALL: ALL This seems to work great for ssh, and not at all for httpd. Does anyone know why this would be? thanks
