Big problem with adaptec SATA RAID 1210SA

Put aside the original driver distribuited with the controller because centos installer not like that... How to prevent loading qla2300.o module

I apologize in advance as this is not really at CentOS specific issue, but I don't know where else to turn. We are configuring some Dell 1850s for a customer, and they have all been configured with a QLogic dual channel HBA. But no storage has been (or will be in the near future) attached to these HBAs. During the boot process (both for the kickstart and after the OS has been installed), there is a 2 minute delay (1 minute for each channel) while the qla2300.o module is loaded and the HBA probes for any attached storage. How can I configure the kernel to ignore the QLogic HBA? It's not that critical for the kickstart process (although that would be nice too). Thanks, Alfred

Compileing lirc on centos 4.1

I am trying to compile lirc.0.7.1 from www.lirc.org and it is indiacting that kernel source is not installed. I then installed kernel source and ran the ./configure again. Same message about kernel not being installed. ANyone compiled lirc.0.7.1 on centos 4.1? OR want to try downloading it (very small) and try running ./configure. Just select save default config and run configure on the first menu. default should be a serial control setup. THanks, Jerry

ACPI Power Off called.

I know this mesage is quite common, but i do get this at shutdown. (Discussed many times on the forums as such.) But still, please provide a "quickfix" acpi power off called, and then the computer simply stays on there, and doesn't shutdown. can anybody help me find a quick fix for this? aacraid strangeness

I've just had an strange thing with Adapted 2200 RAID controller (with optional battery module installed). Basically, new card, worked perfectly for weeks, several reboots and stuff. Then all the sudden, when I rebooted machine this today, system would simply freeze during boot. BIOS showed the card initialized properly, kernel module was loaded (from initrd) and it found all of the arrays, and then the system would freeze at "initializing hardware: storage" step. Booting in rescue mode would freeze just after kernel was loaded. Opened box, unplugged the card, booted without it, system works. Plugged it back in, and now everything works perfectly again!? Most likely it's not "baddly plugged card". I've visually checked for that, the card was plugged seated properly in PCI slot. Both the motherboard and card are just weeks old, so I would rule out oxydation on the connectors. Anyhow, BIOS initialization was fine, and BIOS utilities worked perfectly. Device driver behaving strangly? Anybody else saw the same problem, or even better yet, knows of an solution ;-) ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program.

pptpd install

I'm using Centos4.1 kernel 2.6.9-11.106 and I'm trying to install a pptpd, but have run into a snag. the following is where I'm stuck. [root@centosserver noarch]# rpm --install kernel_ppp_mppe-0.0.5-2dkms.noarch.rpm Creating symlink /var/lib/dkms/kernel_ppp_mppe/0.0.5/source -> /usr/src/kernel_ppp_mppe-0.0.5 DKMS: add Completed. Module build for the currently running kernel was skipped since the kernel source for this kernel does not seem to be installed. So I then Try to install kernel-sourcecode from yum which will then download but say bad key, or it will hang. I tested yum on other packages and it works fine. I also downloaded from rpm.pbone.net and got: rpm -ivh kernel-sourcecode-2.6.9-11.EL.noarch.rpm error: kernel-sourcecode-2.6.9-11.EL.noarch.rpm: V3 DSA signature: BAD, key ID 443e1821 error: kernel-sourcecode-2.6.9-11.EL.noarch.rpm cannot be installed. Anyone know away around this, I'm also willing to recompile the kernel but I'm not sure if that will help. Ok, on to new swamps. I would like to enable PPTP on CentOS4 to accept connections from clients running MicroSoft Win2K and XP pro from outside our firewall. I am testing pptpd-1.2.3-0 and tells me that I need kernel support for MPPE, which I suppose is MicroSoft's own form of PtoP encryption. Is there a way of doing this without rebuilding the kernel? Firefox, Flash and Java on CentOS 4.1 x86-64

First of all, I just want to say *again* how happy I am with CentOS. Across our boxes and our clients boxes, we're running it on more than 20 machines at the moment and it's by far the most painless OS to administer in detail that I've ever used. (Of course, I'm an old Slak hat, but ...) Thanks so much to the community and the maintainers. We've recently run into a problem with a dual-opteron system that is running LTSP and serving up X and Firefox to a whole bunch of diskless clients. We're using the x86-64 build of CentOS, with the appropriate Firefox package. The client users have all been asking for Flash, since many websites are unusable without Flash these days ... but there's no 64-bit build of the Flash plugin. (Thanks, Macromedia! You suck!) What's the best way to provide Flash (and maybe Java?) with Firefox on this server box? How big will the performance hit be from running non-64 bit packages? Any specific tips & hints?
