Install Guide for PostFix (with DoveCot, SquirrelMail, MailScanner, ClamAV) on CentOS-4

Ok, I have been working (for quite a while) on an install guide for PostFix (with DoveCot, SquirrelMail, MailScanner, ClamAV) on CentOS-4. A full install is part 1 (Postfix / Dovecot / Cyrus-Sasl), Part 3 (SquirrelMail) and Part 4 (MailScanner, Spam Assassin, ClamAV). I am still working on Part 2 (Postfix / Cyrus-Imap / Cyrus-Sasl). It will go with Part 3 and Part 4 (same as above) to get a full install that includes Cyrus-Imapd instead of dovecot ... should be done with this one in the next couple days. So to reiterate, Part 1,3,4 is a full postfix/dovecot install ... it is done and ready to go. Parts 2,3,4 is a full postfix/cyrus-imapd install ... this one is not quite done yet. How does /etc/sysconfig/networking/profiles/ work?

I have two routers for different subnets and I'd like to set up different eth0 configurations depending on which one I have the network plugged into. However, it seems that every time I let system-config-network do its thing it forces all the eth0 configurations to be the same (hard-links them all to the one in the "default" profile). I'd also like to have virtual interfaces configured differently in different profiles -- as in, not configured at all in some profies -- so I tried creating e.g. ifcfg-eth0:1 in one of the profiles/ subdirectories, but not only is it ignored when using the network control tool to switch profiles, it also gets *deleted* from the profile if I run system-config-network. There's nothing about profiles in /usr/share/doc/initscripts-7.93.20.EL/sysconfig.txt and no documentation included with the system-config-* RPMs. Does this simply not support having different devices in different profiles? This (particularly the deleting of files I hand-edited) is the sort of thing that used to make me rip linuxconf out of the older RedHat distributions. On a similar note, my ISP has four nameservers, plus I want to include my local LAN nameserver and the nameserver from my work network -- but system-config-network insists on deleting all but the first three nameservers from my resolv.conf. Yeah, I know, upstream issue, but as long as I'm venting ...

CentOS 4.2 hangs at power-on boot

I've just installed CentOS 4.2 on a brand-new PC. It appears to be working fine except for one thing: When the system is first powered on, the boot sequence hangs after Starting udev: Initializing hardware ... storage network audio If I then hit the reset button, it reboots and successfully proceeds. Looking at rc.sysinit and the output of kmodule, it would appear that the problem is with loading the pciehp module. In dmesg after the successful boot I can see a bunch of errors from that module (cut'n'paste appended at the end of this message), but everything appears to be working correctly -- graphical boot was fine, gdm starts up and I have a functional X session when I log in. Any clues? Google found some Debian bug reports regarding hotplug and USB drives ... hmm, now that I think of it, I do have a USB mouse plugged in at boot time, next chance I have I'll try it without that. Adding "redhat" or "centos" to the search didn't turn up anything conclusive. Other details: System installed from CentOS 4.0 ISOs, then upgraded to 4.2 with yum Motherboard is ASUS P5N32-SLI, using onboard sound Radeon X300SE PCI-E graphics card Power-on boot from the install CD also hung, at "running /sbin/loader" but rebooted correctly into the installer after the reset button was pressed. It appears that in FC4 setting 'X11UseLocalhost no' causes sshd to listen for X connections only on the IPV6 port: $ netstat -ant | grep 6010 tcp 0 0 :::6010 :::* LISTEN I'd say this was a bug, and indeed there is such a report in the openssh bugzilla, but it's supposed to have been fixed years ago. I've tried forcing sshd to use IPV4 only (with the -4 flag) but that just gets me back into the land of X authentication failures. The problem with rasmol is that it tries to use the X shared memory extension if it thinks it's running on the same host as the X server. To rasmol an ssh-forwarded X connection looks like a local connection, so it tries to use shared memory and fails. The 'X11UseLocalhost no' trick works because it makes the forwarded connection look like a connection to a remote machine so the application falls back to using an alternative. Looking at the source for rasmol I see that it uses this test to determine if it can use MIT-SHM: ptr = DisplayString(dpy); if( !ptr || (*ptr==':') || !strncmp(ptr,"localhost:",10) || !strncmp(ptr,"unix:",5) || !strncmp(ptr,"local:",6) ) So even with 'X11UseLocalhost yes' it might be possible to fool it into not using MIT-SHM by setting your DISPLAY to '127.0.0.1:10.0' (or whatever). RAID 1: missing operating system

Hi all, I'm trying to setup a RAID-1 with Centos4.2 on HP Netserver E60. The raid consists of 2 9,1GB SCSI disks. The partitioning and installation process went smoothly, but after it finished and rebooting, there is an error: Missing operating system. The partition is: / /home swap Bootloader is on device md0. What could be possibly wrong?
