can't mount any secondary drive partitions

Hi, I have just installed centos 4.2 on machine remotely and everything went well, a second drive was installed, I partitioned it, rebooted and then tried to mount it but keep getting the error mount: /dev/hde6 already mounted or /mnt/1 busy this happens with every partition on any secondary disk, we put a third disk in and get the same error. I have googled but not found anything relevant, most info relates to LVM or raid of which we have neither. any help greatly appreciated. tom

Proper way to give rights at the file system?

I have a certain directory under /usr that I want to make available through vsftp to a specific user. The easiest way to do this, I believe, is to create a symlink from the user's home directory to this directory. The catch is I want/need them to be able to delete/upload files as well. Root is the group and user owner of the files. What is the "proper" way to give rights for this user? Thanks, James

vmware server looking for libX11.so.6 32bit

Was wondering if anyone can help with this, im trying to install vmware-server on a 64 bit centos 4.2 machine and then install is saying it can't find the libX11.so.6 lib and more The correct version of one or more libraries needed to run VMware Server may be missing. This is the output of ldd /usr/bin/vmware: linux-gate.so.1 => (0xffffe000) libm.so.6 => /lib/tls/libm.so.6 (0xf7fd1000) libdl.so.2 => /lib/libdl.so.2 (0xf7fcd000) libpthread.so.0 => /lib/tls/libpthread.so.0 (0xf7fbb000) libX11.so.6 => not found libXtst.so.6 => not found libXext.so.6 => not found libXt.so.6 => not found libICE.so.6 => not found libSM.so.6 => not found libXrender.so.1 => not found libz.so.1 => not found libc.so.6 => /lib/tls/libc.so.6 (0x00b4e000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x00b35000) howver i have the 64bit versions of these filesand im unable to install the i386 for arch reasons im sure off, just wondering if anyone had come across acure for this is it just a case that the vmware product needs to be compiled against 64bit libs and not 32 bit libs Cheers -Stephen

Xen on Centos 4.2....anyone on the list?

I have some questions for setting up & running Xen on a production but low load server running on CentOS 4.2. Does any one on the list have any experience with it? Shall I post my queries? Did not have much luck with Xen list. General comments on various issues I need some elaboration/confirmation from someone experienced can make a lot of difference to me. With best regards. Sanjay.

Server cd

Hi, I have just installed the server cd 4.2 and was wondering what I would need to install to add xcfe4? I wanted to install a light weight desktop for playing around with. Do I have to install x11 and what packages would I install. I have added xcfe4 to Centos 4.2 after I had installed gnome and such. But not sure about with the server cd. Thanks

Ports require to do yum update?

I have a couple CentOS boxes running in our DMZ and although they are running behind a firewall, I'm also running iptables. One thing I cannot do it yum update. What ports are required for this? I have outbound http open and I can browse to sites using firefox. If I run an ethereal scan the process seems to stop with DNS queries, but I can resolve mirrorlist.centos.org without a problem. Anyone know what the problem could be? If I stop iptables everything works of course. Thanks, James

CentOS 4.3 for ppc32

A while back, there was mention that the release of CentOS 4.3 would bring a ppc32 version. Is this still in the works? If so, is it scheduled to be released at the same time as the more popular releases, or at a later time? Thanks, Barry

I had not looked at your repo. Your repo does have at least one extra RPM that I was looking for (perl-Mail-SPF-Query), but yum says it's missing a dependency. Error: Missing Dependency: perl(Net::CIDR::Lite) >= 0.15 is needed by package perl-Mail-SPF-Query Error: Missing Dependency: perl(Net::CIDR::Lite) is needed by package perl-Mail-SPF-Query This doesn't seem to be in any of the repositories. ignorant daily logwatch question ;->

greetings like many, i get a daily logwatch email from "root" about 4AM last night, i rebooted a server from remote between midnight and 2AM and, uncle me, i received an extra logwatch from "anonymous" at the same machine can anyone explain or has anyone else else ever seen this behavior? just wondering and thanks in advance - rh -- Robert Hanson - Abba Communications Computer & Internet Services (509) 624-7159 - www.abbacomm.net
