Raid 1 problems

Hi, I have setup raid on a new server and have found that if I remove one drive it will boot but if I remove the other it says missing OS. I am using two 18.2Gig SCSI drives, using software raid 1. I have it setup with the following drives in this order. /boot swap / all are mirrored between the two drives. I remember a while back that their was a problem with grub would that be the problem here? Why does it work on one drive and not the other? Thanks Mace

There was only one dependency I missed in the Centos install and the Scalix installer took care of it.

Scalix install on CentOS

Hey All, I read on the list here not to long ago a work around for the following error on CentOS for installing the scalix mail server... Error: unsupported OS release: CentOS release 4.2 (Final) on x86_64 Someone posted a fix where you could edit a file changing the name of the OS or something to fix this. Anyone remember which file it was I could edit and what I needed to edit it too in order to make this install work? Any info would be great... Thanks! James Gagnon jamesg(a)nucleus.com

I guess that answers Steve's question from that last email... :) The problem is that grub does not update the boot block on both drives. Dig through the list archives for instructions on fixing it. -- Bowie

I don't know if grub will boot from it or not. Hi Wondering if there are known tools out there for doing block level replication of linux systems? There is a product for windows called Double Take that seems quite good but doe not work with Linux. Anyone know? thanks

Load Average

Maybe somewhat of a vague question, but what would constitute a moderate and a heavy load as depicted by "top" on any particular machine? I am trying to justify running this machine with near 100% cpu utilization on both, with load averages between 5 and 5 according to top. I don't particularly see any significant slowdown in the running processes, but there is a chance the disk I/O might become an issue if too many things are going on at once. As for actual running processes, it varies between 5 and 9, depending on time of day. Memory is not really an issue, even tho usage tops out around 1.3 - 1.4Gb, and only a small usage =< 500k swap. X does seem to get pretty sluggish at those load levels, and I've thought about dumping back to a text console for most of the runtime, but I like my Xterms and monitoring applets. Sam
