apache permission problems

Well i finally got CentOS 4.3 booting, apache is installed, and im trying to setup some virutal hosts, i want the main site to be my default virtual host (which i had on my gentoo server) but i keep getting permission denied errors: Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. and in the logs i get: (13)Permission denied: access to /favicon.ico denied (13)Permission denied: access to /favicon.ico denied (13)Permission denied: access to / denied i have even tried chmod 777 on the /home/user/public_html dir and that still didnt resovle the issue. What user do the files have to be owned by? i would assume the user, but i have also tried apache:apache and root:root, since the original htdocs dir was owned by root:root. everything ive tried just gives me the same permission denied error. here is my vhosts.conf file (i created it under conf.d) NameVirtualHost *:80 <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAdmin webmaster(a)domain.com ServerName domain.com ServerAlias www.domain.com DocumentRoot /home/nick/public_html ErrorLog /home/nick/logs/error_log CustomLog /home/nick/logs/access_log combined <Directory "/home/nick/public_html"> Options Indexes FollowSymLinks AllowOverride None Order allow,deny Allow from all </Directory> </VirtualHost> It DID work with the default install, i got the default page, but for some reason when i switch to virtual hosts i started getting denied. horde updates and config files

Horde RPMs got updated last night. However, the way configuration files were handled wasn't probably the best. Building external modules on 4.3

I'm trying to build the zaptel (v1.2.5) modules on a 4.2 machine upgraded to 4.3, but running into a kernel version problem. The kernel I'm running is 2.6.9-34.ELsmp and I have the kernel-devel-2.6.9-34 RPM installed. I believe the problem is that the modules are being built as if for the uniprocessor kernel (the default for kernel-devel?) leading to the error: zaptel: disagrees about version of symbol struct_module when I try to load the module. I *think* I probably need to grab the kernel sources, take the config file for the SMP kernel from that and drop it into kernel-devel, edit the kernel-devel top-level makefile to get the version name correct and then rebuild the kernel config to get the right kernel version set in the zaptel modules. Is that correct, or have I missed something obvious? James

more than one repo with --disablerepo

What's the correct syntax for something like the following: yum check-update --disablerepo=dag ivazquez Extras Misc this runs "dead" and doesn't do a check-update. Use kommas? Multiple LUN support

Hi all... I have a scsi Tape library. Centos only sees the tape drive portion of the library. I need to enable Multiple LUN support to get the library and tape drive recognized. I am looking for some help enabling multiple lun support in Centos 4. I had a procedure on how to do this in the 2.4 kernel but it doesn't seem to work in the 2.6. Any help would be appreciated. Config: Standard intel server board. p4 processor (3) 3-ware controllers Lsi Logic u320 scsi card External SCSI tape library. Worked before on a Whitebox linux 2.4 kernel, just added: options scsi_mod "max_scsi_luns=16" to /etc/modules.conf and rebuilt the initrd image, then reboot. All worked fine. But Whitebox is crap and was giving me probs and also want everything standardized on CentOS! Thanks!

Robust Search Solution (with CentOS 4.3)

I've got about 10,000 docs I'd like to devise a search/index for. I found a perl script called Perlfect that can do that on an old P3 but at the astronomical time of 7 hours. Another script(cgi/perl) at hotscripts can do the same but allows the "rm -rf /" exploit. DoH!? Is there anything perl/flatfile that can search/index faster? This is a nice job for an aging P3 in the corner so php/MySQL is not an option. Don't suggest beagle/windows solutions as this is a CentOS 4.3 system. __________________________________________________ Improve the mailing list by performing a simple search before posting and reading the faq/etiquette. Centos 4.x, gnome & key "repeating"

Hi, I have a strange problem with Centos 4 (all kernels so far). When i am running gnome (havent tried KDE) and i go into a browser or even just a console window and type something a letter repeates it self 10-20 times (likeeeeee thhhhhhissssss). I can turn this of the the keyboard settings (repeating keys) but then i cant hold down backspace and so on ....I think this is some kind of software error but cant really figure it out :| My hardware is: Nvidia NFORCE4 chipset AMD X2 4200+ 2Gb Memory SATA harddrive SMP kernel (all of the Centos kernels seem to have this problem...havent tried the uni processor onces tho) I've also ran Fedora Core 4 & Fedora Core 5 on this box and have no problems there. Anyone knows a solution for this (except for turning off Repat Keys). Thanks, Finnur Guðmundsson

Sendmail problem

Hello, I am having a problem with returned mail. I don't have something configured correctly. I have 6 virtual hosts on one machine and mail sent from these host is being returned. This is the transcript: The original message was received at Tue, 11 Apr 2006 07:30:19 -0400 from localhost.localdomain [127.0.0.1] ----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors ----- <f5loar(a)charter.net> (reason: 553 #5.1.8 Domain of sender address <apache(a)localhost.localdomain> does not resolve) ----- Transcript of session follows ----- ... while talking to mail.charter.net.: >>> MAIL From:<apache(a)localhost.localdomain> SIZE=1618 <<< 553 #5.1.8 Domain of sender address <apache(a)localhost.localdomain> does not resolve 501 5.6.0 Data format error I think this has something to with outgoing address mappings but not sure how to fix it. All virtual hosts are included in the local domains file. TIA

selfsigned ssl certificate

Hello, I need to setup a secure ssl site but I'm using a FC3 howto wich is not compatibel anymore wwith Centos 4.2 Now I removed the standard crt.key and server.key files and used the make testcert script in /etc/httpd/conf to create a new one with the appropriate company name and such. But this certificate requires a passphrase everytime apache starts and I rather would like to remove this passphrase. Does anyone know a good quick and dirty howto for centos to create a selfsigned ssl certificate without a passphrase? Ivago
