cut command on centos

How do I make the delimiter for cut be a single character with hex value 1e? I tried in a script file: DELIMITER='\x1e' DD=`echo $DATA | cut -f 1 --delimiter $DELIMITER` and it tells me: cut: the delimiter must be a single character Jerry

yum has no updates?

Hi, I haven't updated my centos 4.3 machine in weeks but when I run yum update / yum upgrade no updates seem to be Reading repository metadata in from local files No Packages marked for Update/Obsoletionavailable on the default repo's and dag's repo? "Reading repository metadata in from local files No Packages marked for Update/Obsoletion" yum install $program stills works tho, is this normal behaviour or is there something wrong with my updates? ivago

nfsv4 in centos?

Greetings Some time ago I briefly played with NFS. More recently with Samba. What I am wondering is if NFSv4 is already integrated into Centos 4 from upstream. Reference: http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/reviews/6331/1/ if not, is there a timeline? yum does not download i386 packages on x86_64 Hardware from the centos-4.4 extras repo

Hi, I installed centos-4.4 on x86_64, and I wanted to install nx and freenx from the centos extras. But yum list available '*nx* gives me only yum list available '*nx*' Setting up repositories Reading repository metadata in from local files Available Packages lynx.x86_64 2.8.5-18.2 base Question: How, by using yum, can I install i386-packages or noarch-packages on a x86_64 centos? Any help appreciated. NX problems with centos 4.4

Hi, using centos 4.4, and freenx-0.5.0-10.c4 and nx-1.5.0-1.centos4 on a 8 CPU Amd Opteron system. If I access this system by nxclient-1.5.0 from some workstation (FC6) with Gnome desktop, then after a successful login the X11 windows have no windowmanager frame, so a handling of the X11 windows is very difficult. This effect does not appear when acessing the centos system by xdm. Is this a known issue? All comments are appreciated. Hi All, I am runnig sendmail 8.12.8. I am getting the below error. FreeNX for 64 bit.

Is three any rpm for Nx for 64bit Centos? Or can I use these rpms? (freenx-0.5.0-10.c4 and nx-1.5.0-1.centos4). I have been searching for this quite some time and did find any. If some one could tell me how I could install FreeNx and Nx for Centos 64 bit would be a really appreciated. Thanks Rajeev
