CentOS: scanning

Hi! I've been using v.-4.4 since last Oct, and I'm quite satisfied, *except* for *one* thing: I can't scan! Both kooka and xsane report "no devices available." That doesn't affect printing, but every time I have to scan something, I've to go back to Mandriva or Ubuntu. I've had this HP psc-2410 for a couple of years. I scanned successfully with Fedora Core-3, Mandrake-10C, Mandriva-2006.0, and Ubuntu-2.6.15, but *not* CentOS-4.4! /usr/share/doc/sane-backends-1.0.14 /etc/sane.d/dll.conf: uncommented last line "hpoj" /etc/rc.d/init.d: hpoj /etc/rc.d/rc5.d: @S54hpoj @S55cups /proc/bus/usb/devices: T: Bus=02 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 2 Spd=12 MxCh= 0 D: Ver= 2.00 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1 P: Vendor=03f0 ProdID=3611 Rev= 1.00 S: Manufacturer=hp S: Product=psc 2400 series $ ptal-connect: mlc:usb:psc_2400_series $ scanimage -test scanimage: no SANE devices found Since I'm a user, not a hacker, I don't know what else to do. The equivalent of Ghosting the system

If I were to lose my main hard drive, I would like to have the opportunity to do the same as I can do using Windows: restore from my USB and have a working system. If I were to rsync everything on the main drive (excluding the backup drive, of course and a few other directories) to my USB drive, could I restore using some CD based version of Linux e.g. Knoppix? Hi all, I want to know how to exclude a pkg in yum .conf. below is my yum.conf . I have excluded asterisk-sounds. but I does not work. Why , Can you rectify me? Can't install Centos 4.4 64bit

Hi, I just built a new computer and wanted to install Centos 4.4 64bit on it. Specs AMD x2 64bit 3800+ EE Asus M2NBP-VM CSM 1 GIG RAM 60GIG HD IDE I can get it to boot from the cd and select language etc, and then it askes where the install is coming from. Cd, hd, network etc. Whats up it boots from the cd but then says its not there when it running from the cd. Any suggestions? Thanks Scandog -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Mounting a LVM partition on a USB attached drive

I have one of those USB hard drive cases, and I have my old hard drive in it. Eventhough I have made the changes to mount multiple USB drives in one USB device (works fine for my media play with internal and SD drive), I am only getting the first partition (/Boot (2)) automounted. df does not show anything more about the drive, but the gnome hardware browser shows all three partitions on the drive: /dev/sda sda1 ext3 sda2 linux-swap sda3 LVM Physical Volume Naturally it is sda3 that I want to access. So far my google searches have come up empty.

Compiling CentOS kernel

When I download a kernel from kernel.org I can compile it making config and make bzimage, but in some case I tried to make the kernel for a specific CPU in CentOS kernel source and I can not compile the CentOS kernel. Why CentOS kernel do not compile as kernel of kernel.org? I think that should worlk ease. -- Devel it, Precio http://www.pas-world.com

I'm a noob with CentOS so I appreciate your valuable time and patience with my silly questions. Hopefully, I won't be a noob much longer :-) I'm using CentOS 4.4 and Plesk 8.1 on my Apache web server. I installed netPBM via yum: # yum install netpbm-devel.i386 # yum install netpbm-progs I saw no errors, and when I run "yum list installed" I see the packages. The problem is, my customers' programs can't find netPBM and neither can I. I've been looking for a file named "netpbm" or "netPBM" and I can't find it in /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin. I updated my "locate" database, then I ran "# locate netpbm" but still found nothing. I tried "which netpbm", "whereis netpbm", and everything I could think of but I still can't find it. I've tried restarting Apache to no avail. Can anyone tell me what's going on? What's frikken the path to netPBM? Is there something else I need to do, after running "yum install (pkg)"? Changing the file type

I have a USB external drive that has not been used with my Linux system. The HD is from a Windows system, so it has a NTFS file system. My manuals speak of the fdisk -t command to change the file type, however that does not appear to be available with Centos. Could someone refer me to the steps I should use to change the file type, change to partition if necessary, create a Linux file system and then set it up so that when I plug in the USB drive it will automatically mount (if possible).
