CentOP 5.1 Problem with smbldap-passwd

Hi List, Yesterday i have upgraded from 5.0 to 5.1 and now i have a problem with smbldap-tools. I use smbldap-tools-0.9.4-1.el5.rf from rpmforge. Then i use smbldap-passwd <user> i get an error: smbldap-passwd test Changing UNIX and samba passwords for test New password: Retype new password: Use of uninitialized value in string at /usr/sbin/smbldap-passwd line 277, <STDIN> line 2. Failed to modify UNIX password: shadowMax: value #0 invalid per syntax at /usr/sbin/smbldap-passwd line 285, <STDIN> line 2. In 5.0 it works without errors. are RPMForge and EPEL compatible?

Following Fabian's blog post re: RPMForge being rebuilt for EL5, I've a question: Are there any compatibility problems between RPMForge and EPEL? KMIDI problem

Hi gang! Running 5.1 with Gnome as the default desktop, but have installed KDE too so I can run kde apps. Kmidi is the default midi player, so if I click on a midi file in firefox it brings up KMIDI. KMIDI goes merrily along playing the file, but I get NO SOUND. My motherboard has built in audio but it's disabled and I"m using an old Audiopci 128 card which seems to work fine for everything else. Asus P5K-VM & Centos 5.1 x86_64 freezes during yum install

Hello, I'm trying to complete a minimal install of Centos 5.1 x86_64 on a Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz running on an Asus P5K-VM motherboard - yes, this means it's the G33 chipset. (you can stop laughing now) I'm installing to two SATA-disks setup with Software Raid-1. I've installed an Intel NIC that is detected during install and I'm able to complete the install itself - mind you I have to add acpi=off and/or pci=nommconf or else the installer freezes (keyboard dies, even for numlock on/off) right before installing packages. I've also changed from IDE to AHCI in BIOS as suggested in this mailing-list - it doesn't seem to make a difference. So far the installer completes and I can log in after a reboot: I perform a yum update and at a random package it will freeze - The cursor is still blinking but I'm unable to exit yum with CTRL+C or change to another tty. As far as I know I should uprade to a newer kernel (currently using 2.6.18), but since I'm unable to install the packages needed to roll my own that's a bit difficult. Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Best regards, Vidar Normann

smartctl fails after update to 5.1

Error in xorg-x11-xinit

Hello, if login as user I get the following error message in ~/.xsession-errors*: /etc/X11/xinit/Xsession: line 15: unask: command not found Changing 'unask' to 'umask' seems to fix it. This happens under CentOS 5 and 5.1. regards Olaf

Cough, cough, cough (I have a bit of a cold, please excuse me) Thanks for the great CentOS. I assume the following means I need to humbly ask for the kernel-vm for 5.1, but I am not certain. packages downgraded when going from 5.0 to 5.1

Hello, I have a few packages where the latest updated version in 5.0 is greater than the current 5.1 version. Here is the list: package, installed version (from 5.0 updates), available (in 5.1) flac 1.1.2-28.el5_0.1 1.1.2-27 flac-devel 1.1.2-28.el5_0.1 1.1.2-27 hpijs 1.6.7-4.1.el5.3 1.6.7-4.1 libsane-hpaio 1.6.7-4.1.el5.3 1.6.7-4.1 thunderbird 1.5.0.12-5.el5.centos 1.5.0.12-3.el5.centos I use mirrors.ircam.fr, and apt+synaptic but I don't think that's the reason (except perhaps for the hp stuff?) Is something wrong on my side? If not, should I downgrade those packages to the 5.1 versions? Thanks in advance cheers, Nicolas

Sendmail: timeout waiting for input from local during Draining Input

Hi folks, I've recently replaced a RedHat EL 3.x system with a CentOS 5 system (fully yum'd as of Tuesday). This was a full-pave install, although we did copy the sendmail.mc from the original system. Now I get a lot of this in my logs: Dec 7 11:47:38 mail sendmail[20117]: lB7Gl6w0020116: timeout waiting for input from local during Draining Input The only thing even remotely credible is a Sendmail Known Bugs page which suggests it is a chatty local delivery agent, but since this is happening with outbound messages I don't think I believe this. tick_divider

Just installed CentOS 5.1 on VMware ESX and am attempting to play with the newly added tick_divider feature. It doesn't seem to be making any difference in the number of timer interrupts though. I set tick_divider=10 which should reduce the number of timer interrupts to 100. I wrote a nasty little scripts that queries /proc/interrupts every 1 second and still see an increase each second in about 1000 interrupts. The server is: uname -srvmpio Linux 2.6.18-53.1.4.el5 #1 SMP Fri Nov 30 00:45:16 EST 2007 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux Obviously not running 64bit. Only one cpu has been allocated to this vm. Has anybody else used this successfully?
