nVdia C15G chipset and GeForce 6100 on board graphix controller

Hi, Apologies for the long post - but I'm being driven crazy by this problem. A while ago I built a new server that is intended to serve as a Xen server running multiple DomU systems used a test environments for systems that I am working on. The host Xen system will be CentOS 5 as will some of the DomU systems. The systems will all be hardware virtualized. The motherboard uses the nVidia C15G chipset and the onboard graphix controller is recognised as a GeForce 6100. I am having problems getting the Video and mouse to work properly with CentOS 5 - both with as set of CD's downloaded when CentOS 5 was first released and with a DVD obtained from one of the local distro shops. The symptoms are that the Video is run in 800X600 mode and the mouse pointer works while the system is booting and while I am logging in to a GUI session. Once the login process has completed the mouse pointer disappears (is not visible at all). The mouse does however work as you can see changes to the Icons and menus on screen when moving the mouse around (blindly). The same situation obtains when running the system with FC7 installed. However when I boot the system using a Knoppix 5.1.1 live disk the Video resolution is 1024X768 and the mouse works properly. I attach the output of lspci and lsmod from both CentOS and Knoppix as well as the X86 Config file from Knoppix. Could someone please advise me on how to get CentOs to give the same results with the video and mouse as Knoppix. need help on second Ethernet port (eth1) point to point connect

I have two DELL servers with two Ethernet ports in it. Bith servers have CENTOS 4.5 installed. First Ethernet port connect to public Ethernet line and work correctly. Second Ethernet port I connect point-to-point as private Ethernet (cable direct connect without router or switch). Private Ethernet use IP asddress 1.1.1.1 and 1.1.1.2. I check "ifconfig -a" and both eth0 and eth1 are up and active. when I tried to ping another server use second port (private) and no response. Does anything I configure wrong? rpmforge checksum errors

Almost each time I want to use rpmforge with yum I get a "Metadata file does not meet checksum" error. Yum usually has to try at least five mirrors before it succeeds, sometimes it doesn't find a mirror with a useable file. This is with CentOS 5. Is this a known issue with rpmforge lately? Is there a way to use an HTTP proxy (with a user/pass) with yum? Or at least a way to pass a user/pass through yum? I have a situation with a CentOS server behind a web filter appliance. Thanks, Scott

Not a CentOS specific question, although I am running grep on CentOS 4.3 but how would you grep out a series of lines in a file starting at a specific point. For instance, if I have a file named foo and I want to grep out the next 5 lines after the first and only instance of the string "bar" how could I pull that off? Thanks so much.

Mail Restrictions with sendmail

Hi all, I am running sendmail with MailScanner on CentOS. I want to enable some restrictions. Restrictions are given below. All clients Currently can send Bcc from their workstations as usual. I want to disable (block Bcc) that feature. Can I do it from the Sendmail Server ? All clients currently can send Cc form their workstations as usual. I want to limit it. Let's say about 5 Cc s . All incoming mails are forwarded to another email address by using an alias . pls see below for , /etc/aliases john: john,mailbackup(a)example.com userx: userx,mailbackup(a)example.com The above for incoming mail. Can I make a copy of ALL OUTGOING mail to one email address? let's say mailoutgoing(a)example.com And also enabling quota. What is the best way to add quota? last feature is adding a Global Address Book. Let me explain about it. Let's say In MS exchange server, Whenever users are added, Those names will be available In a Global Address book. IBM X3200

Hi ppl . I am getting a IBM x3200.. This machine can only support up to 4 x 250GB SATA. I need to have a usable space of 500GB and mirror it to other 500GB. IBM proposed me to get 2 RAID cards. Do you guys think i can do raid 0 on the first 2 x 250GB HDD and raid 0 on the second 2 x 250GB hdd, both on hardware raid and then during the installation of centos 5, i raid 1 on both the 2 sets of hardware raids? About 10 seconds after I started this thread, I remembered a long discussion about RAID, SATA, etc., 2 or 3 months ago. I think that Feizhou (?) strongly recommended going with Software RAID in CentOS. I will search for that and do a lot of reading. RAID 1 for mirroring is what I want. Lanny

CentOS4 and older megaraid

Release notes say no support for the RAID card in a box I just picked up...is there no hope for this box running 2.6 kernel? http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-4-Manual/release- notes/as-x86/ The kernel shipped with Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 includes the new megaraid_mbox driver from LSI Logic, which replaces the megaraid driver. The megaraid_mbox driver has an improved design, is compatible with the 2.6 kernel, and includes support for the latest hardware. However, megaraid_mbox does not support some of the older hardware that was supported by the megaraid driver. Adapters with the following PCI vendor ID and device ID pairs are not supported by the megaraid_mbox driver: vendor, device 0x101E, 0x9010 0x101E, 0x9060 0x8086, 0x1960 <--- my card ---< The lspci -n command can be used to display the IDs for adapters installed in a particular machine.
