Add software is hung in Updating Software stage

I am looking via the console, and add software is hung. Saying: Updating Sound-Juicer Can't ping the box. I had selected a lot of packages to install (I did a minimal server install initially). Obviously I have to reboot. Question is how do I recover from this?

timeout when accessing atrpms repo

Hello, I'm using centos5 and i just started noticing a timeout msg when running a yum update. It occurs with the atrpms repo, has anyone else seen this? Thanks. Help with nis password changes

I normally try not to ask questions until I have done as much research as possible, and again, this is the case... Just after I thought I had my RH5 samba/nis server working fine, I come across the inability to update nis passwords. >From the server as root: passwd guest1 Changing password for user guest1. New UNIX password: Retype new UNIX password: NIS password could not be changed. passwd: all authentication tokens updated successfully For the heck of it: yppasswd guest1 Changing NIS acount information for guest1 on server. Please enter root password: Changing NIS password for guest1 on server. Please enter new password: Please retype new password: Error while changing the NIS password. The NIS password has not been changed on the server. The server was rebooted, but that didn't help. What am I missing? Thanks. Scott

rsync arg list to long

I am trying to do an rsync or scp from machine1 to machine2. I am getting arg list to long. I am using centos 5 machine 1 and centos 4.5 on machine2. I am using the default shell which is bash. How can I get past this? THanks, Jerry

RAID 1 it is. Also, I will do burn in tests, on the RAM and drives, before I begin configuring the box. And, learning how to remove/replace a defective drive is something I should do. Lanny

reading ufs2 filesystems with centosplus kernel

Hello, I'm running centos5 with the centosplus kernel v2.6.18-8.1.8.el5 and i'm trying to read a drive that has a ufs2 partition on it. It was originally in a FreeBSD machine and has some data i'd like to get at. Googling indicated this should work with the command: mount -r -t ufs -o ufstype=ufs2 <device> <mountpoint> device is /dev/hdb5 and mountpoint is /mnt. I'm getting an error unknown filesystem type ufs. I'm assuming i have to load a module of some kind. Any help appreciated. Thanks. Dave.

monitoring rsync backups on centos

Hi there, I was wondering whay people were using to monitor rsync backups on centos? I have been looking around sourceforge for various programs (IE Backup Monitor), but am hesitant to trust any of them without hearing about some user experiences. We currently just use rsync for backups (like a slightly more "Vanilla" setup), but just want to be sure everything is going as it should each day.... Thanks! dnk

Sometimes, it's worth ordering from overseas and paying for shipment and customs. I've ordered many things from the USA and it is incredibly rare that something has arrived DOA, in the past 12 years. If it is DOA, then you are without a warranty and in deep stuff.... Look into 3Ware!
