Stage2.img

I've got a RAID card (3ware 9650SE-2LP) that wasn't supported by the in-kernel driver until 2.6.19+ Since CentOS 5.0 is based on 2.6.18-8.el5 is was looking for a way to incorporate their driver from the website so I wouldn't have to use the "linux dd" kernel option all the time. (trying to automate as much as possible using kickstart, scripts, etc). Through reading about other OSes I've found that the most common way to do this would be to modify the stage2.img file on the boot DVD and add the driver to the boot kernel image. The problem is, I can't mount the stage2.img file using cramfs. # mount -o loop -t cramfs stage2.img /mnt mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/loop0, missing codepage or other error In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try dmesg | tail or so Any suggestions? or should I try going about this another way? - G

mdadm --create on Centos5?

Is there some new trick to making raid devices on Centos5? # mdadm --create /dev/md3 --level=1 --raid-devices=2 /dev/sdc1 /dev/sdc1 mdadm: error opening /dev/md3: No such file or directory I thought that worked on earlier versions. USB DVD/CDRW not automounting

I 'just' noticed that my USB DVD/CDRW is not automounting in my Centos 5 installs. Various USB drives do: USB flash drives, USB multi card drives, and USB IDE converters. I can issue a: mnt /dev/cdrom /media but why is this needed?

low profile video cards for linux

Recently I posted about linux and agp cards and some simple video stuff This is for a school on a budget An 8mb built in adapter does cut it real well. Would those in the know please go to http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=low+pr ofile+agp+video and give advise about which one of the cards there would be best for a simple low cost CentOS linux workstation please? Conga / luci question

After playing with conga/luci i'm wondering that it's not possible to reset and/or remove the generated cluster configuration. Somebody knows how to achieve this? I did not find any hint in the RH manuals. Installing Centos 5 on one system and moving the HD to another....

I have a bug report in (0002288) on an install failure on my decTOPs (Centos 4.5 installed on them). I have tried a lot of combinations and it is getting tiring. What what happen, or rather how do I get the following to work: Put my HD into a computer (Compaq SSF that I have installed Centos 5 on with no trouble), install Centos 5, move the HD to the decTOP. Different Video card. No PS/2 keyboard of mouse on the decTOP INTEL vs AMD cpu Could it work?

Changing video cards - fixing X

X does not seem to understand automagically the change in video even though the new video info is in /etc/sysconfig/hwconf So what steps are needed to get X fixed?

Hi, I have tried to customize start menu icon, however i still could not find where the centos icon in the up left corner just before the "Applications" menu is. I already try /usr/share/pixmaps/redhat/* or /usr/share/icon/*. Any other directories should i look at? thanks. --beast

NCQ in the 2.6.18 kernel

Hi All, Newbie here! I was wondering if anyone has succeeded in getting NCQ enabled with the ServerWorks chipset in the 2.6.18 kernel. Mapping to Samba

Using GUI methods (read: easy for most users), is there a way to map to a Samba share and have it accessible to all applications? Going through Nautilus I'm able to create a link to the shares, but they're not accessible from many applications. And, obviously, this is going to be something that changes per user (different mappings, different credentials, etc), so I can't use a static mapping on the machines. I could live with /etc/fstab entries if they could be dynamically adjusted based on the user that's logging into the system. How do other people handle this situation? Thanks, Scott
