USB not detected after update

Hi all, currently on a lenovo R60, after upgrading the CentOS 5.1 I cant detect the USB device any more. The initial installation doesnt have any problems at all. Cannot find solution in forums and bugs either. I am not sure if its a bug or wrongly did an update. The lsusb did not show the device. Things I did: (1) updated to 2.6.18-53.1.21.el5 i686 then to 2.6.18-92.1.6.el5 i686 and here are some of the settings after update (2) Ran lsmod ehci_hcd 33101 0 ohci_hcd 23261 0 uhci_hcd 25421 0 (3) Ran cat /proc/interrupts CPU0 CPU1 0: 204299 0 IO-APIC-edge timer 1: 208 0 IO-APIC-edge i8042 2: 0 0 XT-PIC cascade 8: 1 0 IO-APIC-edge rtc 11: 2 0 IO-APIC-edge ehci_hcd:usb1, uhci_hcd:usb2, uhci_hcd:usb3, uhci_hcd:usb4, uhci_hcd:usb5, HDA Intel, i915@pci:0000:00:02.0 12: 4782 3521 IO-APIC-edge i8042 14: 6429 11429 IO-APIC-edge libata 15: 27 1370 IO-APIC-edge ide1 209: 27 2661 PCI-MSI eth0 NMI: 0 0 LOC: 204143 204151 ERR: 0 MIS: 0 (4) When I plug in usb disk, the /var/log/messages shows Jul 9 12:35:01 localhost kernel: usb 5-2: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 2 Jul 9 12:35:02 localhost kernel: ehci_hcd 0000:00:1d.7: Unlink after no-IRQ? Controller is probably using the wrong IRQ. Jul 9 12:35:12 localhost kernel: usb 5-2: device not accepting address 2, error -110 (5) checked blacklist file, no usb devices like the ehci Before going into CentOS 5.2, I need to verify what is the problem and if it will occur again. "installation method" (CentOS 5.2)

I'm trying to install CentOS 5.2 on a Dell PE 1850 via the DRAC 4 card, with CentOS-5.2-i386-bin-1of6.iso mounted as virtual media. At the boot prompt, I hit <Enter>, which should start the graphical installation, but it starts off with a text installation. I am asked - whether I want to test the media, which I skip - what language I want to use - I select English - what keyboard I have - I select us - the installation method - "What type of media conatins the packages to be installed?" I have the choice between - Local CDROM - Hard drive - NFS image - FTP - HTTP but not virtual CDROM. How can I get it to install from the virtual CDROM? (and no, choosing Local CDROM doesn't work). Why is the question there in the first place? It got that far using the virtual media, so why not simply continue using it? Kind regards, Herta P.S. share folder as USB mass storage device

Hi all! Maybe I'm just being silly here, but I'm wondering if anybody has ever used their computer for sharing files over USB. That is, the computer pretends to be a USB mass storage device. This could be useful for connecting to media players and such that support you plugging a USB harddrive or memory stick. Surely, somebody must have thought of this before :-D regards, Bent

I installed Centos 5.2 on DELL 2650 server (fresh install). After installed finish, I reboot server and get following messages and server hang: Memory for crash kernel (0x0 to 0x0) notwithin permissible range Redhat nash version 5.1.19.6 starting Anyone know why? install from USB thumdrive

Hi all Is there a procedure to use an 8GIG thumbdrive to copy the centos 5.2 dvd contents to the thumbdrive then run isolinux (or something like it) and be able to use the thumbdrive as the install media? Seems like it should work, however my machine only has syslinux not isolinux. yum provides isolinux does not return anything. Anyway I was trying to get to a point where I can just stick a USB fab in a machine, have the fab setup with the correct kickstart and everything so it just installs. I cant modify a DVD but a fab I could put the kickstart files on and nothing to type. jerry

Drive activity every 30sec

I have a Centos installed on a Hitachi 2.5" drive that shuts off really quickly, it seems. So every 30 sec, the drive makes the sound of an access activity. I have looked trying to find what might be being updated. Swap drive usage is 0 bytes. No activity in /var/log. What might it be and can I do anything to lessen the drive access (improve battery life)?

minimal packages to use x11 forwarding

What CentOS (5) packages are needed to setup X11 forwarding? I don't want to install a full desktop, just the minimal to forward some server windows to my desktop. Regards, Dnk

Centos 5.2 and 2.6.18-92 Kernel backported SATA fixes?

Last year to get motherboards with the G33 chipset with SATA working with Centos I had to either use David Harbic fixes or use Fedora 8 since it had the later 2.6.25 kernel. I no longer see David's fixes available and also see in the 5.2 release notes "update SATA driver and infrastructure". Did Redhat finally incorporate fixes to full support the new G33 chipset and SATA? I have more of these G33 chipset motherboards with Q6600 cpu. Trying to decide which is the least hassle setup and long term i386 or x86_64, on either Centos 5.2 or Fedora 9?
