i386 version of Perl getting installed on x64 system?

I am trying to install: perl-Compress-Zlib perl-Digest-Perl-MD5 perl-Net-DNS perl-Time-HiRes perl-Email-Valid perl-File-ReadBackwards perl-File-Scan-ClamAV perl-Mail-SPF-Query perl-libwww-perl perl-LDAP perl-Unix-Syslog perl-Mail-SRS perl-Net-CIDR-Lite perl-Mail-SPF which are all either noarch or x86_64 rpms yet it wants to install perl i386 version? I could ask on rf list but it wont let me subscribe so that's of no help:/ Is there an obvious reason for this, or another bizarre erroneous dependency issue? Thanks! jlc

PPPoE and IPv6

I am not getting my IPv6 address and prefix delegation for my ppp interface on my new gateway. ppp is working right. It is getting authenticated and getting the its IPv4 address. Shorewall is doing the forwarding and the static routes on the internal interface for IPv4 are working. But no IPv6. Here is my ifcfg-ppp0: USERCTL=no BOOTPROTO=dialup NAME=DSLppp0 DEVICE=ppp0 TYPE=xDSL ONBOOT=no PIDFILE=/var/run/pppoe-adsl.pid FIREWALL=NONE PING=. PPPOE_TIMEOUT=80 LCP_FAILURE=3 LCP_INTERVAL=20 CLAMPMSS=1412 CONNECT_POLL=6 CONNECT_TIMEOUT=60 DEFROUTE=yes SYNCHRONOUS=no ETH=eth0 PROVIDER=DSLppp0 USER='me' PEERDNS=no DEMAND=no PERSIST=no IPV6INIT=yes Interesting also about the FIREWALL entry. I do have iptables off, as I am using shorewall that uses netfilter. I will be using ip6tables once I get things going. Of course once I get IPv6 to this box, I then have to have IPv6_forwarding working....

configuration file for tunneling device

Hi, For Ethernet and others, we have a configuration file inside /etc/sysconfig/newtork-script/ like ifcfg-ethx where we specify ip address, mask, type etc... For GRE tunneling, how can I specify the parameters for tunneling device, so that I ifup-tunnel will automatically read and start the interface and I don't have to write the below scripts in my start-up file. ip tunnel add netx mode gre remote 69.77.7.7 local 192.168.0.1 ttl 255 ip addr add 192.168.0.1 dev netx

RHEL vs. CentOS

Hi, we have a new customer to support. They have RHEL5 not CentOS5. Is there a summary of the differences between RHEL and CentOS? We have come across differences in how yum works. There is magic involving the rhnplugin that connects us to invisible repositories not mentioned in the yum config files, interacts with the web interface via rhn.redhat.com, ... We wonder if there are other differences that we have not yet stumbled upon, that might create issues in the future. -- Drew Einhorn

how to generate modprobe.conf

Hello, i have moved hard disk from one pc to another (some architecture). I have booted, everything working. To my surprise some modules in modprobes.conf are still there even if this PC does not have such hardware. I have tried remove modprobe.conf, but after reboot, system by it self does not generate a new one modprobe.conf. What is responsible for modprobe.conf generation, how can i revoke it to generate a modprobe.conf such as is generated after fresh install. Thanks in advance! David

Can't run a bash script from USB drive

I just tried to run a bash script (called "whose") from my USB drive and I get this: bash: /mt/bin/whose: /bin/bash: bad interpreter: Permission denied I did some googling and found that this is because my USB drive is mounted with noexec permission. When I was running FC8, this was not the case. How can I control this (i.e., allow 'exec' on my USB drive(s))? Thanks mhr

mkdep vs. makedepend

Where I work, we have an application that has been merrily running away (and being built) on FC1 (yes, you read that right). One of my assignments is to bring this up to CentOS, but on my first effort, I ran into this interesting "feature." The original build process (FC1) uses mkdep to generate the dependency files that are subsequently used by the makes to build the app. mkdep does not exist in CentOS 5.2. There is a makedepend command that operates slightly differently. Can someone enlighten me on this, particularly w.r.t. 1) how do I use makedepend to generate the same files mkdep did and is this a good idea (my impression is that it's not really that hard but also not necessarily a good idea or 2) convert all the makefiles to be makedepend friendly (seems relatively easy, though fairly extensive, but probably a better idea and also harmless should I wish/need to continue to build on the FC1 system? Probably a really basic question or two, but neither google nor the archives have a good article on this that I could find. Thanks. mhr

Wanted: minimal install ks.cfg

Greetings, all. I'm in need of a minimal ks.cfg file for the smallest possible install with yum. I've got the scripting for yum to install the apps I need, I just want to insure all the cruft is not on the system as well. Using the s-c-ks app, the smallest I have gotten is 600MB. This is for a server appliance vm that I need to deploy quickly and dynamically. Thanks Dnaiel
