INIT 5 and system is gone

I had been running a system on Centos 5.1 at INIT 3. I did the upgrade to Centos 5.2 with the aid of the powernowk8 patch. Previously I would VNC into the unit when I needed to do admin stuff with a GUI. Well I noticed that I was NOT getting GNOME via VNC since the upgrade (worked before just fine with 5.1). So I tried an INIT 5 from the command line (always worked before), but the system seemed to hang. Video was off. I rebooted, went to INITTAB and changed init to 5 and rebooted. Probably a tragic mistake. Now on boot, right after UDEV gets an OK, the screen goes blank and the drive stops turning. I tried booting with the 5.1 kernel, and same behaviour with the system blanking out and all load activity stopping after UDEV loads. So I am quite stuck at this point. Is there an option that I can edit into the kernel command at boot time to init in 3? And then what do I try? If I have to reload Centos, I have to pull the drive, put it into another system, install there, etc. Not my idea of a fun day....

The com.oonics open shared root cluster installation DVD allows the installation of a single node open shared root cluster with the use of anaconda, the well known installation software provided by Red Hat. After the installation, the open shared root cluster can be easily scaled up to more than hundred cluster nodes. You can now download the open shared root installation DVD from www.open-sharedroot.org. We are very interested in feetback. laptop wireless--orinoco_cs, can it do WPA?

Hi! I'm messing about with an old Toshiba Tecra laptop. i've got wireless working well using NetworkManager and WEP. But I'm interested in finding out if it is possible to get WPA/TKIP or other WPA variants to work with that driver. According to dmesg, boottime diagnostics include: eth0: Hardware identity 0005:0004:0005:0000 eth0: Station identity 001f:0001:0008:000a eth0: firmware determined as Lucent/Agere 8.10 ... eth0 Station name "HERMES I" I've been googling a lot and most of what I see seems to indicate that there's no WPA support in that hardware, but that it may be possible to do WPA anyway if the drivers have the right set of patches. But so far I've not found anything definitive, especially not something that goes back far enough to be in a modestly old product like Centos 5.2. but anyway, if anyone knows anything about this I'd appreciate some hints. In your problem above, you can use unetbootin (google it) and you can make bootable USB with Linux (Fedora, CentOS, Ubuntu, etc.) inside. There is available both for windows and linux platform. How did you configured the pppoe link? I have been using the adsl-setup command from the rp-pppoe package to configure the dsl link, it generates the ifcfg-ppp0 file on /etc/sysconfig/network/scripts with the values needed to bring the link up such as the username, network interface to use, etc. Also the adsl-setup command stores the username and password on the chap-secrets and pap-secrets files under /etc/ppp After the dsl is configured you can bring it up /down with the adsl-start adsl-stop commands. __________________________________________________ Correo Yahoo! After upgrading to 5.2 I now have gam_server running. How do I turn it off? nothing with gam in /etc/init.d Jerry

PPPoE setup

My provider is getting ready to switch my DSL router to bridging mode and I supply the router (so I can get no only IPv4 addresses but also IPv6 addresses!). Windows to linux migration [PassSync.msi for 64 bit windows2003 ]

HI, I am trying to migrate from windows to linux. For that i am integrating existing windows 2003 R2 64 BIT standard edition running ADS with Redhat Directory Server 8.0 runnning on CENTOS5 for user/group and password sync.I followed the step given in centos wiki and i sucessfully synced the users but password sync is not happening.In passync log its telling* "unable to load password entries from file" Since i am using 64 bit windows edition but rhds8.0 is running on 32 bit edition.May be the passSync.msi comes along with 32bit edition works only with 32 bit windows or if any 64 bit version of PassSync.msi is available.Plz help me this is very urgent for me. issue with acl's

Good day all, CentOS 5/Latest Vanilla Samba that comes with CentOS. I have a folder on a samba share that has the following permissions: [root@server]# getfacl TechnicalReports/ # file: TechnicalReports # owner: root # group: projectteam user::rwx user:dnk:rwx group::rwx mask::rwx other::--- default:user::rwx default:user:dnk:rwx default:group::rwx default:mask::rwx default:other::--- now the user dnk is not a member of the "projectteam" group. And for some reason the dnk user is denied access to this folder even though through setfacl the id was given full access to the folder. I had set the permissions like so: chown -R root:projectteam $BASE/TechnicalReports chmod -R 770 $BASE/TechnicalReports chmod g+s $BASE/TechnicalReports setfacl -R -m u:dnk:rwx $BASE/TechnicalReports setfacl -m d:u:dnk:rwx $BASE/TechnicalReports Ideas? dnk
