Rsync Setup

I have seen many ways to setup a rsync backup but I have never got one to work on a centos machine. I have used 4.5 and 5.0 If anyone could point me in the right direction, much thanks. Cheyenne

What is the purpose of FSIDs? I am exporting 30 volumes via NFS. Do I need a FSID option? TIA

Confusing output from pvdisplay

Help setting up external drive via Firewire

I got a WD 1TB My Book with eSATA/USB/Firewire400 connectivity to backup data on a client Centos 5.1 machine. USB 2.0 works fine out of the box but is rather slow, Nautilus predicts about 1+ hour to fully backup just one day's worth of data or about 100GB. So I was hoping Firewire would be faster, which is why we got the version with all 3 interfaces to experiment with first. Following the suggestions given to another user here http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=15767&forum=37 I updated the system's kernel to the CentoPlus [noob@localhost ~]$ uname -s -r Linux 2.6.18-92.1.10.el5 After a reboot, everything appears to work as expected, with the motherboard's TI Firewire controller detected [root@localhost ~]# lspci | grep 1394 04:07.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Texas Instruments TSB43AB23 IEEE-1394a-2000 Controller (PHY/Link) However, now I'm stuck as the system does not appear to detect the drive when I connect the firewire cable and turn it on. I've followed some of the suggestions to check the drive status like "fdisk -l" but this only shows the drives already installed in the system "tail -f /var/log/dmesg" shows no new messages when the drive is connected/powered on So I'm at a loss as to what else I should be doing to get Firewire to work and will appreciate any help on this. Writable Centos LiveCD on Embeded Linux?

Hi all, I was wondering if it possible to have a Centos LiveCD installation boot from a Compact Flash in a embeded x86 (Wrap/Alix) platform *and* be able to save the changes made to the File System back to the Flash memory. So, the next time the LiveCD boots it will have all the changes made. The problem I'm trying yo solve is: - fast boot time - fast recovery when the Linux is shutdown improperly (power failure, etc) - be able to upgrade some rpm packages via yum Will a LiveCD (squash/union FS) be a better solution than booting Centos directly from an ext2(fewer I/O than ext3) partition? Hello, I'm new to CENTOS and I'd like to learn how to use it from ground up. Can anyone recommend me books on it? I already have the documentation from the web site, can I start with it? I've already done very basic stuff on archlinux and slackware.

Hard disk, format, filesystem

Ok, I give up... I have to ask. This is CentOS 5. I switched one of my raid1 disks, and I already thought I had succeeded. But now it seems that something is very wrong with the first partition on the new disk. Luckily my system is fully bootable with the other disk. Here's some info. When I use my kickstart file (which works on 5.1 x86_64) with 5.2 I get the following error. I put my kickstart file at the end. can't get Ethernet SNMP information

Hi all, I hope someone can help me with this one. I'm trying to graph all traffic on the localhost's network card with Cacti. >From what I understand I should use SNMP to query the traffic, but I can't seem to get SNMP info for the network interface.
