Ok, new updates over the weekend. Just tested it on one server, with the result that I think there's a bug with the thunderbird package. As in, Updating : thunderbird 10/28 Could not parse file '/usr/share/applications/redhat-userpasswd.desktop': desktop entry does not have group 'Desktop Entry' So, someone's got their cases wrong, or they forgot to put an ignore case flag on. Should I file a bug report? mark

Problem burning DVD+RW discs

Good Day-- I've been backing up my essential stuff to DVD+R discs for quite a while with no trouble at all. Last week I tried backing up to a DVD+RW with no trouble at all. This week, when trying to re-write my weekly backup, CD/DVD Creator told me it could not write to the disc because it was read-only. Is there a bug in CD/DVD Creator or am I doing something incorrectly. Obviously, I'd like to be able to reuse discs if I can, but can go back to using one-use DVDs if necessary. Thanks for any help. Back up to Rackspace Cloud Files from a CentOS server

Hi all, I'm looking for a solution to be able to back up to a Rackspace Cloud Files account from a CentOS server. I have set up Duplicity but have found out that the back-ups are in GPG-encrypted volumes. There are also GUI clients for Windows and Mac but they're not what I need. I'm looking for something like a command-line tool that will let me push directories on the server (via rsync perhaps) to the Rackspace Cloud Files container. Being able to run it non-interactively on the shell is a requirement because I need to be able to run backup scripts via cron. Any help would be appreciated. Network tuning for working with very old Solaris

G'day. I am trying to get a very old Solaris 5.7 server to ftp data to my updated CentOS 5.4 server but the Solaris box keeps losing networking after sending some data. I can't ping the Solaris box from any of the servers on my network. Could this be related to a much newer (modern) TCP/IP stack in Linux and TCP options? If so, does anyone have any suggestions for how I can tune the Linux server? I am not as concerned about performance, but just to keep the Solaris box from crashing (and no, I can't upgrade the legacy Solaris server). Thanks, -- Wade Hampton

printer trouble - missing driver?

I can't get my HP DeskJet D2345 (USB) to work on my CentOS 5.3 machine. It'll work on another machine (with Fedora 7). I compared the installation details (in CUPS http://localhost:631) - seems that Cent does not have the driver. On the F7 machine, the device is "D2345 (HP D2300 series)" and the driver is "HP DeskJet D2300 Foomatic/hpijs". When I try to config my Cent machine for this printer, I don't see that driver anywhere in the list. I searched cups.org for D2345 and D2300 - no joy. Can I merely copy some file (the driver?) to the Cent machine? (If so, where would I find it?) Or, how do I get this printer to work with CentOS 5.x? * Details * On the Cent box, I tried using the "HP DeskJet" (generic?) driver. But, when I tell it to print (in an app or even a test page from cups), the computer seems to go thru the motions, but the printer doesn't respond at all (no noises, nothing). Indeed, cups even states that the job is completed. Hi. CentOS 5.4 64-bit with SELinux, happily running for over a year, suddenly httpd fails to start up, getting an error message like: Starting httpd: Syntax error on line X of /etc/httpd/conf.d/php.conf: Cannot load /etc/httpd/modules/libphp5.so into server: libxml2.so.2: failed to map segment from shared object: Permission denied I turned off SELinux and was able to start httpd. But what went wrong? And how to fix it and turn SELinux back on? SElinux labels on libxml.so.2.6.26 are OK ( system_u:object_r:lib_t ) and "restorecon -n libxml.so.2.6.26" does not return anything. No recent AVC denied entries in /var/log/audit/audit.log or /var/log/messages. I googled the above error message but all I could find were web pages in Chinese advising to run restorecon on libxml2.so file or turn off SElinux. Any suggestions? Thanks Aleksey
