Devhelp had problem

when i opened Devhelp,there was a segment err even i had reinstall it. How can i fix it?

I think there was just a thread 'bout this, and I didn't pay attention... and then I walked into our smallest server room to rebuild a server with CentOS... and that's what it is. The problem I'm having is this: there are two 1T SAS drives, raided, via the controller. There's also a 750G SATA drive. The Dell test suite sees it, and reports that SMART says it's fine. However, no matter what I do, the BIOS doesn't see it, and when I boot to linux text, fdisk only sees the raided 1t. Clues for the poor? I want to put the system on the SATA drive, leaving the raid for data. mark

Samba and " (and maybe other characters) in paths/files

Hello I have samba installed on my server, with a fileshare. When connecting to samba, using windows, filesnames with " (double quotes) in them become gibberish on the windows client. Under linux I connect to these fileshares using NFS, and the names are correct (I also created them this way). I've made a screenshot: http://users.webmind.be/~glenn/samba.PNG How can I fix this? fresh install of centos looking for non-existant /dev/hda : /dev/hda: open failed: No medium found

PV VG Fmt Attr PSize PFree /dev/sda2 VolGroup01 lvm2 a- 232.72G 0 /dev/sdb1 VolGroup00 lvm2 a- 232.81G 32.00M unknown device VolGroup00 lvm2 a- 232.72G 32.00M I just installed the OS, did some tweaks, but did nothing to hardware. There was no /dev/hda listed when I went through the partitioning page of the install. Where did this come from? How do I get rid of it? Does it matter? mahalo, Dave

centos5.5 text install forcing me to add all disks to LVM volgroup

Graphic installer doesn't like my graphics card, so I am using the text installer. I have two physical disks in my system. When I get to the "partitioning type" page, I choose "remove all partitions on selected drives [etc]" and put an asterisk next to sda, no asterisk next to sdb. I want to use sdb as a separate partition, no LVM, I figure I can set it up after installing. Then I hit 'OK' and go to the warning page, say yes. Review and modify partitioning layout - yes. So now I am looking at the partitioning page and I am surprised to see /dev/sdb and sdb1 down at the bottom, since that disk was *not* selected. I select sdb1 and try to delete, it says " unable to delete You cannot delete this partition: this parition is part of the LVM volume group 'volgroup00'". If I try to delete /dev/sdb1, it says I must choose a partiton. If i try to edit volgroup00, it says 'LVM volume groups can only be edited in the graphical installer." So, am I stuck? It seems like my only option is to go ahead and add both disks, then try to remove one of the disks after completing the install. Is there some sort of workaround for this? What if I actually had some data on that drive (fortunately I do not), would it get wiped by this? Mahalo, Dave

spamassassin needs updating?

The spamassassin on my server is 3.2.5 and is stock CentOS 5.x. I do apply updates regularly. Most of my legitimate contacts are either whitelisted or sorted into folders before spamassassin sees them, but I have noticed an increasing amount of legitimate mail marked as spam. One issue seems to be the FH_DATE_PAST_20XX rule. I was able to fix that via running sa-update as root per http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/Rules/FH_DATE_PAST_20XX Should the rule be fixed in the actual RPM though since it is past 2010? Secondly a lot of mail is marked due to DNS_FROM_OPENWHOIS In SpamAssassin 3.3 and later, that rule is removed because: Status of bl.open-whois.org: DEAD http://wiki.apache.org/spamassassin/Rules/DNS_FROM_OPENWHOIS Shouldn't that rule then be removed from the CentOS RPM? I think I figured out how to remove it manually (give score of 0.0 on trigger) but if it doesn't work, it should be patched out of the CentOS RPM, no? Will CentOS patch it w/o rhel patching? IE where should I search for bug reports and file a bugzilla?

Amavisd-new UBE problem on Postfix server

This is a web hosting mailserver, so there are multiple domains being passed through this email system. I decided this new system would be Postfix and followed the Centos Wiki to aid in the installation and setup. It seems that Amavisd is throwing this error from time to time. ----- Subject: Considered UNSOLICITED BULK EMAIL, apparently from you From: "Content-filter at <mailserverdomainname.com> ----- and now I'll skip to the bottom of the error message ------ First upstream SMTP client IP address: [97.13.153.201] According to a 'Received:' trace, the message apparently originated at: [97.13.153.201], localhost 201.sub-97-13-153.myvzw.com [97.13.153.201] ------- which shows this email was sent through a smart phone on the Verizon network. The email settings on the phone are correct. The domain name of the sender is properly configured and email is working on their computer. I have searched for this and found many questions about why and only one ugly solution. It seems that if you add the domain name to @local_domains_maps = in amavis conf, the problem goes away, at least in some situations. Obviously not something one wants to have to do with each additional domain added to a server. Amavis is set to the default @local_domains_maps = ( [".$mydomain"] ); # list of all local domains on my system. $mydomain is set to the mailservername. Does anyone have a good solution to this problem? Thanks, John Hinton

Hi,guys: I am trying to setup OpenLDAP on CentOS 5.3 i386 for a client of mine. everytime I try running 'service ldap start', I get the following in syslog: root@xx ~: tailf /var/log/messages .....slaptest: sql_select option missing ....slaptest: auxpropfunc error no mechanism available ....slapd[4392]: sql_select option missing ....slapd[4392]: auxpropfunc error no mechanism available ....ldap: slapd startup failed I have checked the permissions on /etc/ldap.conf and /etc/openldap.conf and the two are chmod'd ldap:ldap Can anyone give me pointers? Thanks in advance ....

centos 5.5 on optiplex 745

Hi, we have some old dell optiplex 745 machines which have the Intel 965q chipset. The problem is, that they freeze as soon as the system tries to start the X system. It happens even before any log is written. This happens almost every time (for some reason it sometimes work, but 99% it fails). When i change the graphic driver in xorg.conf from intel to vesa it mostly works, but still i sometimes get a flickering screen, but this can mostly be resolved using ctrl+alt+backspace (sometimes you have to try this twice). We use the 1024x768 and 24 bit colors, so this shouldn't be the problem. Does anyone know a fix for this problem? Janez
