Kernel Compilation

Hi everyone, To be short, I try to compile the Distro kernel release 2.6.32-279.2.1.el6.centos.plus.x86_64, but I always got an error telling "missing-syscalls". I try and try and search, this morning on the CentOS Forum to find nothing on this subject. What is the solution, my CentOS Gurus? Have a great day Martin

Is gnome-devel-docs supposed to work with devhelp?

I just installed gnome-devel-docs with the objective of having a local copy of the gnome hig-book and now that I have it installed I don't know how to use it. I had assumed that it would show up in devhelp but it doesn't. What I have is a bunch of XML files in /usr/share/gnome/help/hig-book/C, and when I try to view one with firefox it tells me "This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below. su path hard coded?

Is there any way of changing the PATH that's set by 'su' to be specific to my needs? It looks like 'su' has the path's hard coded. % rpm -qf /bin/su coreutils-5.97-34.el5_8.1 % strings /bin/su | grep local.bin /usr/local/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/sbin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/bin /usr/local/bin:/bin:/usr/bin I could kludge it with pam_env, I guess, but that may have more impact than just 'su' and I'd like to avoid side-effects. problem with machine "freezing" for short periods

I have two HP dc7800 convertible minitowers that are exhibiting the following issue: every 5-10 minutes, they will "freeze" for about 30 seconds, and then pick right back up again. During the freeze, it seems that nothing at all happens on the system; the clock doesn't even advance (it just picks up again with the next second, and that 30-or-so seconds are lost). I've tried both CentOS 5.8 and 5.7, thinking it was a kernel incompatibility, but the problem happened with both versions. I have tried different hard drives, different memory, even swapped the entire machine, and the problem exists everywhere. I have tried adding "pci=nommconf" to the kernel line, as that was reported as being necessary back with 5.2 on these machines, but that made no difference (and shouldn't be necessary now, anyway, as I believe the issue has either been fixed or worked-around). I am stuck, and can't figure out where to even suspect the problem might actually be. There are no errors getting logged anywhere that I can find, probably because everything just "stops" temporarily, so there's nothing for the system to log. Does anyone have any idea where I could look to fix this? I think I am next going to go back to 5.2, where the pci=nommconf is necessary, because at least back that far it appears to have been working for other people. However, I really would like to have this running 5.8. It keeps butting in when I try to install map software from Garmin under Wine. I'm not nearly competent not willing to apply the remedy it suggests. How do I get to someplace where I can disable it, or at least set it to permissive?
