ssh connections not closing when Qt application is opened?

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1086971 I have been able to reproduce the above issue on my home network and at work, but RedHat is claiming it is not a bug, so can some people on this list give it a try and see if they can reproduce it? Thanks, Dave

ESXi, CentOS 7 guest, CPU disabled

Hello, Over the last several weeks I've had a couple of CentOS 7 guests running in ESXi freeze because the CentOS halted the CPU. The problem is described here: http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=di… My CentOS 6 VMs are not misbehaving at all, nor are the Ubuntu VMs. Anyone else seeing this bug or know what to do about it? I've tried the Brother installer script and it fails to set up the printer, after complained that I need the 32-bit libraries. That's from the rpm, mfc7360nlpr from Brother. When I try to install glibc.i686, it complains that I need an older glibc-common, and trying to step back on glibc-common didn't work because of a bunch of dependencies. I'm just not sure if it's a good idea to install the glibc.i686 with nodeps, and see what happens. I've had no luck setting this up manually. Besides not printing, the scanner won't work, which is why I want this printer. The printer had been connected via usb to a Centos 5x machine and just installed, no problem, scanner and all. This is definitely nothing more than a version problem with glibc.i686. I had some time today, and easily set up the printer -- networked -- on a Fedora 20 system, and a Centos 6 system. Both are 64-bit machines, and I had no problem putting glibc.i686 on them. After that the Brother installer did all the work. But on the machine in question, the only glibc.i686 that yum finds is glibc-2.17-55.el7 in base, but the trouble is that my glibc-common was updated to glibc-common 2.17-55.el7_0.1.x86_64 from updates. Is there a compatible update to glibc.i686? I would've thought there'd be one in updates when glibc-common was updated. I tried installing glibc with nodeps, and I tried downgrading glibc-common, but yum refused. Part of the problem is some multimedia packages installed from nux. Barry

centos 7 & gnome desktop & mozilla firefox & url links

Dear all, I m using Centos 7 with the Gnome Desktop. When I create url links by dragging from Mozilla Firefox to the Desktop, a web link file is created on the Desktop, and that file does what it needs to do when double clicking. However, when I try to drag this file to another position on the Desktop (to organize my Desktop), a new file is created (having a name ServiceLogin), counter intuitive to a file drag operation on any Desktop. Dragging other files on the Desktop works normal. I tried on another computer running Centos 6.5, there dragging web link files works without problems. best regards mathy

X Abort after run level 3->5 transition and multiple logins are tried?

Through many years and through CentOS-6.5, I would boot to runlevel 3, do various admin stuff on my desktop and then telinit 5, which started an X session on tty7. I would then do logout->switch user a few times to get additional user IDs active. Many years ago I would accomplish this with some kind of "startx ... :1', or ':2' etc. thingy, but I've forgotten the details now. For some reason 6.6 update makes it start on tty1. The wisdom behind that is unknown to me. I thought I had that set back to the way it was after I found and modified some script/conf file stuff, but no joy. Might have been fixed but was masked because I didn't realize the signifcance of the run level transition described below? Anyway, I changed to boot to run level 5, start a phony session (i.e. login with an I.D. that is resevred to do nothing at all), do logout->switch user, which starts a session on tty7 where I login, again for tty8 and again for tty9 which gets me operating as is my habit with three different user-IDs on ttys 7-9. The problem is that if I logout all those sessions, telinit 3, do my normal backups, telinit 5, do the phony login and try to switch user I get X aborts. What happens is the screen on tty1 blanks, I hit <ctrl>, screen comes alive and asks for password, I enter it and I can be active on that phony session again. But I can't do any switch user at all because it again aborts. I do 'shutdown -r now' and that cures the problem when it comes back in run level 5. As part of trying to correct, I wiped the system which had been updated from 6.5->6.6, downloaded the install DVDs and re-installed the system, including my changes from over the years (I need to do some learning on the RPM scripting stuff if I have to do this very often - but I have successfully transitioned to TDU, Typical Dumb User, since I got out of computers professionally). The system is pretty-much "box stock" CentOS 6.6, but for adding gpm, some KDE components, and plugins like flash player and "official" java for Firefox and such. $ uname -a Linux CentOS501.homegroannetwork 2.6.32-504.1.3.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Nov 11 17:57:25 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux $ cat /etc/centos-release CentOS release 6.6 (Final) System is 100% current AFAIK. I tried to use the provided abort tool to report the X abort issues, but I have no RH account. Anybody else experience the X behavior I describe? The key seems, at my ignorant level anyway, to be transitioning from run level 3 to run level 5. Or maybe 5 to 3 and back to 5? But early on I tried booting to 3, telinit 5 and had similar symptioms IIRC (age and time fades the memory and I didn't start out thinking this was a reportable thing). Booting directly into run level 5 hasn't, so far, demonstrated the symptoms. I figure when I get time I will duplicate the issue and open an item in the CentOS bug reporting tool. I suppose I'll have to put the collected trace stuff in a file, which I can do, and then upload from there. I did a quick scan of X-related stuff in the bug tracker and didn't see anything similar. 1. Can anybody else confirm this behavior? 2. Any known work-around? 3. While we're at it, .conf changes or such to get first X session back to tty7? This is the most difficult time with an upgrade for me since I started with CentOS ... 3? 4? TIA for any help/feedback. CentOS 7 not installable using KVM-over-IP System

Hi, I just tried to install CentOS 7 using a Lantronix Spider KVM-over-IP System and its virtual media feature and to my surprise this did not work. The installation using the netinstall iso seems to work for a while (I see some dracut boot messages) but when the first stage of the boot is finished I get dropped into an emergency shell with the error message that "/dev/root does not exist". I tried this on a Supermicro system and a gen-8 HP ProLiant Server both with the same result. Using CentOS 6 instead worked fine and I could install the Systems without issues. Any idea what the problem could be? Given that the iso is passed through as a USB storage device I'm not sure what the problem could be. Regards, Dennis
