It is accessed with ssh and runs an ftp server, a web server and a samba server so my wife can back up her pc to it. It is running behind a router. This computer more than meets my needs as a lightweight server except the hardware is dying and I want to replace it. The question in my mind is: should I just buy another workstation class motherboard and duplicate what I already have or buy a motherboard which is intended to be used as a server? Thank you, Joe

Centos box and Cisco 3750 VLAN's

Hello all, I have a CentOS box that has a NIC (eth0) on which I defined 4 VLAN's (counting the NIC itself): eth0, eth0.1, eth0.2 and eht0.3. Initially the Cisco switch was not partitioned into VLAN's which means that the only VLAN running on it was the default one (VLAN 1). I have then played with VLAN's a bit on the switch and at this point have two: VLAN 1 (which is default and can not be deleted) and VLAN 3. The CentOS box is plugged into a trunk port on VLAN 3 which by virtue of being a trunk should belong to all VLANs. However, this does not seem to work as expected. What I get is the following: 1) eht0 does not come up at all. ifup eth0 Device eth0 does not seem to be present, delaying initialization 2) eth0.3 comes up fine. 3) Other VLAN's do not come up. No error messages, just never show up. Any insight into this would be most welcome. Primarily, I fail to understand why all those VLAN's came up on VLAN 1 and why now even VLAN 1 does not come up - even though the trunk port the device is plugged into is supposed to be a member of all VLAN's. Newer version of ffmpeg for EL6?

We're trying to build a rich media website, and will need to re-encode the video content with ffmpeg. Unfortunately, the ffmpeg version that comes with the most common repos are rather out of date. As in 0.6.5 vs 2.21 being the most current version. However, ffmpeg looks to be a pretty thorny thing to compile with all the options we need. It appears that the FFMPEG with rpmfusion for Fedora is pretty current, 2.1.4. Is there a repo out there that anybody knows of that has a relatively current version of ffmpeg out for Centos 6? nodejs, epel, SCL

Hello, With SCL and epel repositories enabled, some dependencies for the package name 'nodejs' get satisfied with libs from SCL which are placed in paths that are not part of my user's environment. Is there a method to make sure that nodeJS from epel dependencies are only satisfied from epel? traffic distribution not happening in centos 6.5

Hi, I am experimenting with libnetfilter_queue. libnetfilter_queue is a userspace library providing an API to packets that have been queued by the kernel packet filter. I am using sample code(nfqnl_test.c) available on netfilter.org. I have generated two binaries (queue0 and queue1) using that nfqnl_test.c sample code. These binaries are working as per expected behaviour in case of Centos 6.2 but with Centos 6.5 only one queue is receiving network traffic. I am not able to understand why only one queue is receiving network traffic in case of Centos 6.5 whereas same network traffic is being distributed in both the queues with Centos 6.2. uname –a :- Linux hwcentos8 2.6.32-431.el6.x86_64 #1 SMP Fri Nov 22 03:15:09 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Machine Info: 16 core machine with 64GB RAM. CentOS 6 KVM networking: What am I missing???

Hi, I am using centos 6.4. i am trying to update /proc/sys/fs/epoll/max_user_instances but it seems like it is not supported anymore in /etc/sysctl.conf. How do we update max_user_instances on centos 6.4? Thanks & Regards Manjunath

"new" computers and monitors

Until recently, I had a 32-bit machine with one monitor running fedora. The later editions of fedora didn't like it, so I switched to CentOS. Now I have two 64-bit machines and two monitors and a CenturyLink router. Also a KVM switch that I have not taken out of the package. My main machine has two video connections and two ethernet connections, eth0 and eth1 . I've never had more than one machine or more than one monitor before. I'd like to be able to use both monitors at once on my main machine. I'd like to be able to switch one monitor between machines without too much trouble. I'd rather not where the pins out. KVM will do this, right? KVM is transparent to the computer, right? My secondary machine sometimes runs Windows, so I'd like it not to have its own global IP address. My first thought would be to connect it directly to one of the ethernet ports on my main machine. How do I go about this?
