OT: Avoiding redirection loops with iptables tproxy

Hi all, I have a hard trouble with my iptables rules. I need to create a netfilter config so that it does not redirect connections from a daemon (like for example a squid proxy) to the original destinations. Searching info about that, some ways to do that include to limit the redirection rules to the incoming traffic interface, another to limit it to a certain range of source IPs or to explicitly exclude connections originating on localhost (CentOS 6 x86_64 fully patched). Any help or sample please??

C7 and fstab

Hi List, I've installed C7.1 and today configuring fstab for another disk I get this: UUID=d5ff30df-9e1d-4fc8-99b6-845ffa6509db / xfs defaults 0 0 UUID=052f75bc-0513-45e0-a01f-06c9a698469f /mnt/data xfs defaults 0 0 UUID=732dafbd-2f14-4dd6-8513-1504b13302f1 swap swap defaults 0 0 Fields fs_freq and fs_passno are all set to 0. This fstab was generated by the installer and not yet modified. To reproduce this, I've installed a minimal centos on a VM and the same problem persists. I don't know if this is a bug or if there is a new system that does not require the last two field on C7 REL 1503. Someone has the same problem? THanks in advance.

So I'm back to this problem. A quick run down of what the original problem was: I have a machine that I'm configuring to use kickstart to setup. It has two builtin ethernet ports (labeled ports 1 and 2) and I'm adding a third one on its PCIe bus. Originally I was using an r8169 clone a default kickstart always put it as eth0 with the builtin ones as eth1 and eth2 respectively. After some fiddling with blacklisting the driver during the kickstart process, I was able to get the machine to boot up with the r8169 as eth3 (!!!) while the other two were correctly identified as eth0 and eth1 (this is what I want except the PCIe card should've been eth2 but it never came up that way) However I ran into other issues with the r8169 driver and ultimately replaced it for an IntelPRO, which happens to use the same e1000e module as the builtin ones. Great. Except ... Now when I kickstart the machine, I get this: builtin port1 -> eth0 PCIe card -> eth1 builtin port2 -> eth2 What I want is: builtin port1 -> eth0 builtin port2 -> eth1 PCIe card -> eth2 I should also point out here that when PXE kicks in on this machine, the machine correctly enumerates the ethernet devices as port1, port2 and then the PCIe card. So somewhere in the kickstart process things change. So I'm back to trying to figure out how to achieve this.

nm-applet, wirless, and CentOS 6

I have a strange problem and I know I am doing things way outside of the box. First of all I don't like Gnome or really any of the mess-windows flavored desktop systems and no, I don't like the MacOSX flavored desktop systems (like Ubuntu's Unity) either. The 'desktop' system (if you could have called it that) that I learned on was DEC's 'DecWindows' system on a VAXStation 2000 (under VMS). This was basically a rebranded Motif system with MWM and used DEC's *simple* session manager. I presently use FVWM in MWM compatibilty mode and a home written session manager written in Tcl/Tk. I use FVWM's icon box module to manage the run-time icons for running applications. I don't have *any* desktop icons and don't (won't) use a graphical file manager. The session manager has a simple customizable menu and a text area (for note taking and as an output space for launched programs). I do use a gnome-panel and use nm-applet to manage networking on my laptop. This works just fine on my older laptop (a Thinkpad X31) running CentOS 5. I recently got a newer laptop (a used Thinkpad R500) that I installed CentOS 6 on and set up up much the same. But there is a problem with nm-applet: it works for the *wired* network, but not for the wireless. I *know* that the wireless NIC is detected and working, since if I fire up the default GNome desktop it works. It just does not work with my alternitive setup. When I click on the nm-applet little icon, it does list all of the available wireless networks, but when I select one, *nothing* happens. I'm guessing I am missing some GNome infrastructure, but I don't know what. I am running the gnome settings daemon and I am using dbus-launch to start the dbus system. But what else am I missing? Where should I be looking for possible error messages? Is there some flag I can give nm-applet to get debugging information? Is there an alternitive applet available? If it comes down to it, is it possible to run gnome without the graphical file manager and a different window manager? nagios check_local_disk failing

Hey all, I have a local disk check defined which is giving me an error: Current Status: UNKNOWN (for 0d 0h 1m 38s)Status Information:Unknown argument Usage: check_disk -w limit -c limit [-W limit] [-K limit] {-p pathPerformance Data:-x device} [-C] [-E] [-e] [-f] [-g group ] [-k] [-l] [-M] [-m] [-R path ] [-r path ] [-t timeout] [-u unit] [-v] [-X type] [-N type] [-n] I have a local check setup like this in the server's config: define service{ use local-service ; Name of service template to use host_name monitor1 service_description Root Partition check_command check_local_disk!20%!10%!/ } It's attempting to do a local disk check on the nagios server itself. Not an NRPE check. Delaying systemd reboot for a while

Hi, I'm in need of rebooting a server 1 minute after I give the command. I'm used to shutdown -r +1 which works as advertised. Now that shutdown is part of systemd <http://www.freedesktop.org/software/systemd/man/shutdown.html> and it is actually a link to it in CentOS 7, I've seen in the documentation <https://access.redhat.com/documentation/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/7/ht…> that I can also use systemctl reboot But I can't find a way to provide a time specification in this latter form. What's the correct incantation? TIA, Carlos.

Firefox 38 and Older TLS sites

All, Red Hat released the source code for Firefox 38. We have (or willbe today) releasing this for CentOS-5, CentOS-6, and CentOS-7. It does not, by default, connect to https sites with TLS less than 1.2. This means it will not connect to sites on CentOS-5, for example .. there are many others. I am setting up a file server with CentOS 7. I'm seeing performance which is considerably slower than a similar server running CentOS 6.6. A 3Gb directory can be copied to/from the CentOS 6.6 server in about 50 seconds. The same directory takes about 270 seconds to copy to/from the CentOS 7 system. I see the same performance difference with NFS mounted file systems or using scp, so it doesn't appear to be an NFS issue. The MTU on the NICs on both systems is 1500, and changing it to 6000 on the CentOS 7 system had no effect. New approach syncookies help me

Hello Everyone, I have 2 different suggestions about syn-cookies method which is used to block syn-flood attacks. Syn cookies bitwise image --------------------------------------------- T(5 bits) ---MSS(3 bits)-----H(24 bits) --------------------------------------------- So, 1- T value can be decreased to 2 bit which is already 5 bit.And hash value will be 27 bit. 2-Normally syn-cookies is activated when syn-list is fulled. At this point I suggest a hybrid system.Syn packages and eck packages which received to server will be counted, if the difference is bigger than a reference value syn-cookies will be activated. In other words syn-cookies mechanism will be in automatic control. Now I have two questions; 1-How can I invoke syn-cookies structure into Linux Kernel? 2-How can I know when syn-list is fulled? CentOS 7 MATE flakey mouse

I'm using the MATE desktop (via 'yum groupinstall "MATE Desktop"') on CentOS 7. I'm finding the mouse to be rather flakey in the sense that: - in MATE Terminal, clicking on text and dragging the mouse (in order to highlight the text and copy it to the X cut & paste buffer) will sometimes drop the highlight (thus not copying anything), or stop and restart the highlight (thus copying the wrong text). - double clicking in MATE terminal to do highlight and copy in by-words mode often grabs the wrong text In all other versions of xterm-like terminals since the dawn of time, these kinds of operations have been rock-solid. Now they're unpredictable. Is anyone else seeing this kind of behavior? Devin

appdynamics php agent prevented by SELinux

Hey guys, I've got another C7 problem I was hoping to solve. I installed appdynamics-php-agent-4.0.5.0-1.x86_64 on a C7.1 host. It's failing to communicate with it's controller on another host. And this is the interesting part. Whether or not I have SELinux enabled, I have apache reporting SELinux problems. Bacula backup system

Hi there, In my last request I have asked info about backuppc and other backup solutions. After some test I have choosen bacula. Many people said it's too complex and try to make it works is a challenge. I've tested backuppc and I don't like it for a stupid reason... I must install on centos external software, configure a web server with cgi with suid enabled (apache does not have mod_perl) I must exchange ssh key or configure smb shares. On backuppc site is reported that there is no database because it is another point of failure. But to make backup pc working I need different softwares to make it work. With bacula I need pgsql (installed with 3 step) install bacula with yum and configure bacula. Bacula is amazing in it's configurantion...you must spend time for studying it but it is solid and powerfull. This is my choice and this not mean that backuppc is bad. Then after this...I'm new to bacula. On different sites, on bacula docs and on sample files, there is specified a job related to database (catalog) backup. The catalog is used to restore a backup. What do you think about backupping catalog on the same backup server? If the backup server dies, how I can restore catalog(s)? If server dies, I can restore without reinstall bacula? What solution do you use?

Hello, I hope someone can hlep me take this hurdle towards using Centos7 I'm trying to get a usb 3-g dongle to work on Centos7 On Centos6 I can follow the instructions that come with the device to get it to work: 1. Insert stick 2. Dismiss all popups about running the auto install scripts 3. Open terminal 4. cd $HOME 5. mkdir vfinstall 6. cd vfinstall 7. (cd /media/"Vodafone Mobile Broadband" && tar -cvf - .) | tar -xf <96> 8. chmod +x autorun.sh install_linux 9. sudo ./autorun.sh 10. Type user password 11. Wait for last command to finish, then close terminal or just cd /media/Vodafone Mobile Broadband ./ install_linux I also tested the stick on Fedora21, it connects without installing anything. Backup PC or other solution

I list, I'm new with backup ops and I'm searching a good system to accomplish this work. I know that on centos there are bacula and amanda but they are too tape oriented. Another is that they are very powerfull but more complex. I need a solution for small office for disk storage and I found Backup PC. Many people say that it is great for small stuff and for great number of data. What do you mean about Backup PC? Any experiences? What solution do you use? Thanks in advances.

firewalld trouble opening a port

Hey all, I'm having a little trouble opening up a port on a C7 machine. Here's the default zone: [root@appd:~] #firewall-cmd --get-default-zone home So I try to add the port: [root@appd:~] #firewall-cmd --zone=home --add-port=8181/tcp success Then I reload firewalld: [root@appd:~] #firewall-cmd --reload success Simple! That should do it. Right? Well not quite. Cuz when I telnet to that host on that port, it's not connecting: #telnet appd.mydomain.com 8181 Trying xx.xx.xx.xx... <---obscuring the real IP telnet: connect to address xx.xx.xx.xx: Connection refused telnet: Unable to connect to remote host Yet, that port is definitely listening on the host: [root@appd:~] #lsof -i :8181 COMMAND PID USER FD TYPE DEVICE SIZE/OFF NODE NAME java 13423 root 333u IPv6 3526508 0t0 TCP *:intermapper (LISTEN) And if I stop the firewall momentarily : I can telnet to that port from a remote location: #telnet appd.mydomain.com 8181 Trying xx.xx.xx.xx... Centos6 & 7 : unable to print from webmail

Hello All, I have this problem in both Centos 6 and 7, with standard Firefox, version 31.6. I've tested this with Zarafa and Zimbra webmail. Certain mails cannot be printed. These are mails that have "untrusted" images somewhere in the body of the mail. As a workaround : If you forward the mail, and before you press send, you delete these images, you can print them. I hope I'm explaining this right. Note : if you ever wonder what a bunch of people complain about the most when you put them behind Linux machines, it's printing. Probably they all of a sudden they cannot complain any more about annoying pop-ups or viruses shutting them down completely. KVM Questions

I have a system with two CentOS 7.1 guests. When I created the VMs I did not have enough storage space in the default location /var/lib/libvirt/images so I moved the default location to a directory /home/vmimages. While this configuration is functional I regret creating a new storage pool in /home. I would like to create a separate partition to place the VM images removing them from their present /home/images location. The /home partition is presently empty other than the VM images directory so I can easily steal space from it (using only ~4% of 500GB). However, I have a problem. Namely /home is an XFS file system so I cannot shrink the partition in order to make space for the desired new VM images partition. I was wondering if this procedure might work to do what I desire: 1.) Shutdown the VMs 2.) Archive the VM image directory /home/vmimages to a network drive (don't have space locally other than on /home) 3.) Use parted or fdisk to delete present /home partition 4.) Use parted or fdisk to re-create smaller/home partition and new /vm-images partition 5.) Create XFS file system on /home and /vm-images 6.) Extact VM image directory archive into /vm-images 7.) Use virt-manager to change default location of images to /vm-images Is there any chance that after all this the VMs would actually start up again especially after a re-boot? mariadb fails to start under C7

Hey all, I just unstalled MariaDB version 10 from the mariadb repositories under a CentOS 7 host. The install went fine! [root@nfsdb1 ~]# rpm -qa | grep -i mariadb MariaDB-common-10.0.19-1.el7.centos.x86_64 MariaDB-server-10.0.19-1.el7.centos.x86_64 MariaDB-client-10.0.19-1.el7.centos.x86_64 MariaDB-shared-10.0.19-1.el7.centos.x86_64 However, when I go to start up the service, I'm getting this error: [root@nfsdb1 ~]# systemctl start mariadb.service Failed to issue method call: Unit mariadb.service failed to load: No such file or directory. Centos 7 and qemu-kvm

Still trying to migrate to CentOS 7. I used to use qemu-kvm on centos 6. tried to compile on centos 7 and get error about undefined reference to timer_gettime searching for that says basically use virt-manager so I installed virt-manager - I have file images and those work. some times I do directly to a USB connected disk. I do not see how to do that in virt-manager ??? How do I use a device like /dev/sdh as my disk??? Thanks, Jerry

Best way to integrate CentOS in Windows AD environment

We currently use a combination of Kerberos and NIS to manage users on our CentOS 6 systems in a Windows AD environment. NIS is provided by Windows Services for UNIX (or something named similarly), which has some issues, and is also not going to be supported by Microsoft in the future. NIS supplies the passed file as well as the auto mount map for home directories as shown by this excerpt from our /etc/nsswitch.conf file: passwd: files nis shadow: files nis group: files nis Our systems are configured using something similar to the following in our Kickstart config file: authconfig --enablemd5 --passalgo=sha512 --enablenis —nisdomain=XXX \ --nisserver=nis.XXX.com,nis2.XXX.com --useshadow --enablekrb5 \ --krb5realm=XXX.COM --krb5kdc=ldap.XXX.com --krb5adminserver=ldap.XXX.com <http://ldap.xxx.com/> where nis1 and nis2 are the local AD domain controllers. With this configuration, any user can log into any CentOS system, and their home directory is automatically mounted over NFS with autofs. This works great, except for when the network is down and/or the home directory NFS server is not available, when the systems pretty much just hang. It’s also only good for workstations and servers, but not laptops that may not be on the network. I would like to move to CentOS 7 and a model where we don’t use NIS at all, the users and (local) home directories are automatically created on login using the UID stored on the LDAP server. Before I re-invent the wheel, has somebody done this already? If so, can you share the authconfig line from your Kickstart file? To summarize, I’d like to: Use LDAP/Kerberos provided by Windows AD servers to authenticate users Automatically create accounts/home directories upon first login Not require the system to be on the network (provided the user has logged in at least once to create the account locally) Thanks in advance for any suggestions/examples. openvpn and firewalld

I am trying to build a new openvpn server based on CentOS7. Everything is working fine as long as I disable firewalld. With firewalld enabled, I can connect to the vpn and ping the machines on the network, but I am unable to ssh to them. What I had on my old server with iptables was two simple rules: -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -s <localnet>/255.255.0.0 -d <vpnnet>/255.255.0.0 -j ACCEPT -A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -s <vpnnet>/255.255.0.0 -d <localnet>/255.255.0.0 -j ACCEPT This allowed all traffic to flow between my vpn subnet and the local network. How can I duplicate this behavior with firewalld? I even tried using the --direct option to put in these same rules without success. Although I may not have done it quite right -- firewalld seems to have added 20 extra chains to the rule structure and I'm not sure exactly where I should put these rules. Unfortunately, I cannot easily debug this while I'm at the office, but if you can give me any suggestions, I can try them out when I get home tonight. Thanks! -- Bowie

More specifically -- when you get the "not found" in the browser there should be an entry logged in the error log. E.g., tail the error log, issue a request, and see what you see. The error log entry will show the details of what is being requested and generally gives strong hints as to why it can't be found (pathing, access, etc.). If you don't get an entry in the error log that you are looking at then double check your configuration to make certain you are are looking at the one for the apache instance in question. When I try to access apache's document root from a browser on local network, it always serve me the Apache welcome page, even if I have a index.html and a phpinfo.php file in the /var/www/html folder. If point the browser specifically to http://server/index.html, I get a '404 Not found error'. I'm running CentOS 6.6 x86_64. I've been googling this for a couple of days and found nothing. ntpdate odd behavior

I noticed this morning that my ntp time was not correct on machines. So I manually ran "ntpdate time.apple.com" on my clients, I got 7 May 08:46:43 ntpdate[10550]: no server suitable for synchronization found then I ran "ntpdate -d time.apple.com" and it worked . filter offset: -163.446 -163.446 -163.446 -163.447 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 0.000000 delay 0.20570, dispersion 0.00049 offset -163.447341 7 May 08:46:25 ntpdate[10519]: step time server 17.253.2.243 offset -163.447144 sec then I ran "ntpdate time.apple.com" again and got the above error again. Any idea what that is about? Why is ntpdate giving the error? This is on centos 6.6 x86_64 and same result on 3 machines. Thanks, jerry

VirtIO drivers and CentOS 5.4(Final)

Hi All My guest is a CentOS 5.4 VM: [root@localhost ~]# uname -a Linux localhost 2.6.18-164.el5 #1 SMP Thu Sep 3 03:28:30 EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux [root@localhost ~]# cat /etc/*release CentOS release 5.4 (Final) I wanted to know if the virtio drivers on this guest are stable. The reason for asking this question is that i found this link: http://wiki.libvirt.org/page/Virtio which states that in order to use the virtio drivers i need to be using the kernel >=2.6.25 , but i am using the kernel version 2.6.18 in my guest VM. I am actually able to use the virtio drivers in my VM even with this kernel version and hence i wanted to know if they are stable to be used. Did red hat backport these drivers to CentOS 5.4 ? If yes , Can you please point me to any bug to track this backport activity or any announcement of this backport task ? I need that to show to my team so that we can release note this information as part of releasing our product. Appreciate your help in this regard. Thanks Jatin

Cannot remount drive after lost iSCSI connection

Hi all, We've having an issue at the moment where an iSCSI connection was temporarily lost on a few VMs running CentOS 6 on ESXi. The problem is, now that the iSCSI connection has returned, we are not able to remount the drive. At first the drive is read-only, so I tried '*mount -o remount,rw*' which didn't work (still read-only), so then I tried a '*umount*' (which worked), but now I get the following error when trying to mount it again: root@server [~]# mount /backup/ mount: /dev/sdb1 already mounted or /backup busy root@server [~]# mount /dev/sdb1 mount: /dev/sdb1 already mounted or /backup busy I have also tried '*echo "- - -" > /sys/class/scsi_host/host1/scan*' and checked to see if any processes were using /dev/sdb1 or /backup using ' *fuser*' and '*lsof*'. I know a reboot will solve it, but I'm trying to avoid that as best I can, so I'm wondering if anyone else has any other ideas? The front page of centos.org refers to "CentOS 7 (1503)". I thought that the final decision was to call it "CentOS 7.1 (1503)", so that people wouldn't be confused when comparing the upstream and CentOS versions? While we're at it, if I click on "Documentation" it doesn't show any docs for CentOS 6 or CentOS 7. I know why, but it really ought to be explained. -- greg

Issue getting Gnome display manager on Centos 6 to Xming on Win7

Greetings - My objective is to get a full Gnome GUI console display to show in an Xming window on my Win7 box. I do a similar thing with my Raspberry Pi so that it operates headless with just the power and network cord attached. My CentOS 6 box and the Win7 box are on the same network within my office LAN behind a good firewall. For various reasons that I won't go into I am unable to combine them into a single box using KVM, so I would at least like to be able to display my CentOS Gnome GUI within an Xming window on my Win7 box. And I like the way that Xming works, so I would rather not switch to something like X2Go as I wasn't too keen on it when I last tried it. I have done plenty of research on the web that describes how to do this, but I must be missing something. I have the following things configured on the CentOS 6 box. /etc/gdm/custom.conf file [security] DisallowTCP=false AllowRemoteRoot=true [xdmcp] Enable=true /etc/ssh/sshd_config X11Forwarding yes X11DisplayOffset 10 X11UseLocalHost yes I start Xming on the Win7 box with the basic parameters. Xming.exe :0 -resize -clipboard (one window is default) Putty has X11 Forwarding enabled. After logging into the CentOS box via Putty I can invoke a single program, such as Gedit and it will display on the Xming window, but I can not seem to get the entire Gnome GUI display manager. On my Raspberry Pi, once logged in through Putty I just type "startlxde" at the command prompt to get the entire display. But the Pi is a Debian based system running a different display manager, so I don't know what would be comparable for CentOS 6, and whether additional configuration is needed. I have tried all the basic troubleshooting actions. I have disabled the firewalls on both the CentOS 6 and Win7 boxes, and I have changed SELinux to permissive mode. None of these changes made any difference, I could still display Gedit but not the entire Gnome GUI display manager. So I figure there must be something else I need to do that I am not finding in all my Google searches. Can someone clue me in please. Thanks. Jeff Boyce Meridian Environmental

CentOS 7, NFS 4, and a non ext4 fs (like zfs)

Hello, we want to migrate to CentOS 7(.1) , Server, Client etc ... Right now we need to suspend that because we have some serious issues with NFS4 shared ZFS ( kernel module - zfs on linux project ) Volumes and CentOS 7 clients. Our current server are CentOS6.5, if we share a zfs volume and do the following on this share: client A reads/access file "z.txt". Now client B replaces (copy, move, unlink+link ) files "z.txt" with a new different version and now client A reads/access the file "z.txt" ( and only the file - do not do anything which does a "stat" on the file e.g. "cat z.txt") the old version/content is read. As long as you do something that issues a "stat" for the file/dir. This is really a problem because a soon you are not browsing through the dirs e.g. updating some scripts or anything automated the changes are not recognized by the client. This does not happen with a ext4 share. This also happen with a centos7.0 NFS Server and ZFS/XFS. We permute pretty much every nfs mount/share option - it always happens. Nothing does help. This does not happen with a Centos7.1 server and a centos7.1 client and xfs (NFS4.1). Of course it works with our current client server Version: Ubuntu 12.04 / CentOS 6.5. It really does not seem to be a zfs issue - it does look more like a nfs problem with certain filessystems. I asked this already on the zfs mailing list. So is there something I can do? Is the problem known? Is there a workaround , patch or fix? I am still unsure if I missed something completely because the problem is just so serious... question about unhide / transitory process

Hello, running unhide ( unhide-20130526-1.el7.x86_64 ) on CentOS 7 i get sometimes messages like: Found HIDDEN PID: 30784 Cmdline: "<none>" Executable: "<no link>" "<none> ... maybe a transitory process" On a second unhide run immediately after it, the process seems to have vanished. Also, i do not see anything about it in /proc, and rkhunter and chkrootkit do _not_ detect it. How can i debug or do some further tests? I want to make sure that this is a false positive and not a rootkit. Thanky a lot in advance, ulrich

Mysql 5.6, Centos 7 and errno: 24 - Too many open files

Hi, may be somewon has a working solution and information on that: I installed the most recent mysql community on a server and do get a lot of "errno: 24 - Too many open files". There are suggestions to increase the open_files_limit, change/add that to /etc/security/limits.conf and modify the systemd script by hand. Depending on how you start mysql (restart, or at systemboot time ...) the limit get set or not. Question: Is that may be a known bug or something? And thats mit a question regarding mariadb or mysql. Default,syncookies are activate when syn list(backlog queue) is full. I want hybrid system. I propose a system , syncookies active dynamic per connection . where will I write code , where syncookies system does call in the code file.
