Correct way to disble TCP Segmentation Offload (tso off) in CentOS 5

Hi, What's the correct way to disble TSO (TCP Segmentation Offload) in RHEL5? I have tried adding those options in ifcfg-ethX configuration file: # grep ETHTOOL /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 ETHTOOL_OPTS="tso off" And also with: ETHTOOL_OPTS="-K eth0 tso off" But when restating the server TSO is enabled: # ethtool -k eth0 tcp segmentation offload: on As a temporary solution, I'm executing this command in a start script: /sbin/ethtool -K eth0 tso off But I think it can be configured in network configuration files, any idea to solve this? thanks!! Getting started with NFS

Hi, I've never been using NFS before, but I'm going to need it. I gathered some documentation (Deployment Guide, RHEL 5 Unleashed, general NFS docs) and I have a few machines to experiment with. After about two hours of reading and experimenting, I must admit the documentation is confusing, to say the least. Although some step-by-step tutorials are provided, none of them work. For example, the RHEL deployment guide mentions NFSv2, NFSv3 and NFSv4... but as much as I poke around, I don't even find a way to checkout which one of the version I'm running. So... 1) Can you suggest some reliable and well-written (think: newbie-friendly) documentation about NFS? 2) Usually I start out from a minimal install on desktop as well as servers. Which packages are needed on the servers side, and on the client side, in order for NFS to work correctly? None of the docs mentioned above says a word about it. Thanks, Niki

Unable to install 64 bit on x3650

Greetings, I am trying to install Centos 5.3 on IBM x3650 with Adaptec based ServeRAID 8k Just two disk in RAID 1 When trying boot with CD1 the booting process aborts with a kernel panic saying that some unknown-de and some message saying to use the correct 'root=' boot parameter. md0 mounted rw on boot

Hi folks, I updates one of my long-running CentOS 4.x systems today, and afterwards it wouldn't boot properly. My issue was that it would start, then announce: Checking root filesystem /dev/md0 is mounted. e2fsck cannot continue. After much twiddling around, I discovered that if I booted from the first kernel I had, it would boot properly. Now this is a hand-rolled RAID, not an anaconda-generated one. And I seem to recall generating an initrd myself in order for the boot process to work. Does this mean that I have to generate a new initrd every time I want to boot to a new kernel? For the record, this kernel failed: title CentOS (2.6.9-78.0.22.EL) root (hd0,0) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.9-78.0.22.EL ro quiet root=/dev/md0 initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.9-78.0.22.EL.img ...while this one succeeded: title CentOS-4 i386 (2.6.9-34.EL) root (hd0,0) kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.9-34.EL ro root=/dev/md0 initrd /boot/initrd-2.6.9-34.EL.img And there are several other kernels on the system, but I honestly don't know which ones have been run successfully. I assumed it was a problem with the mirror I was using (ftp-stud.fht-esslingen.de) so I excluded in it fastestmirror.conf and tried again, this time using fr2.rpmfind.net, but no joy: Error: Missing Dependency: perl(Compress::Raw::Zlib) >= 2.020 is needed by package perl-IO-Compress-2.020-1.el5.rf.noarch (rpmforge) At this point, I'm not going to worry too much about it - it's in the system and should eventually turn up.
