csgfs repo for CentOS 4

Is there any update on the csgfs packages for CentOS 4? The current rpms are 10 months old unless I'm looking at the wrong mirror. -- Bowie

Trouble running 'alsamixer' as normal user on headless box with minimal system

Hi, I just transformed an old Pentium III 500 into a headless jukebox. It's installed in the basement, near the stereo. There's only a base CentOS system on it (GNOME unchecked, package customization checked and then everything unchecked). From there on, I just installed the ALSA utils, and vorbis-tools. The machine is only supposed to do one thing (and to do it well, UNIX philosophy :oD): fetch an audio stream (produced by MPD/Icecast upstairs on a big PC) and then output it from the soundcard to the AUX IN from the stereo. I have a partial - and near-total - success, in that everything runs fine... as root user. what would be happen if swap partition is not?

Hello, all. I know the function of the swap and can make swap partion or file. But, if there is no swap partion at system, what would be happen? that makes the system unstable or not? I have one system that has no swap, but there was no problem until now. Upgrading drives in raid 1

I think I have solved my issue and would like some input from anyone who has done this for pitfalls, errors, or if I am just wrong. Centos 5.x, software raid, 250gb drives. 2 drives in mirror, one spare. All same size. 2 devices in the mirror, one boot (about 100MB), one that fills the rest of disk and contains LVM partitions. I was thinking of taking out the spare and adding a 500gb drive. I would run this " sfdisk -d /dev/sda | sfdisk /dev/sdc " (drive 'a' setup is cloned onto drive c) Then I would add drive c to the raid array as the spare. I would then pull out drive b and allow drive c to be synced with a. At this point drive c has 250gb worth of partioned space in raid/lvm. I then add a 500gb drive b and repeat above pulling out drive a. Now I have two 500gb drives (b and c) with 250gb worth of partitions mirrored. I am thinking I would next forget about md0 (the boot part) and concentrate on the md1, where the whole system lies. # mdadm --grow /dev/md1 --size=max I believe this will grow out the size of md1 to fill the 500gb of the drive. I would then wrestle with expanding the LVMs that fill the md1 up as I wish. After that, I would add drive 'a' 500gb to the mix by cloning the partitions and then adding as a spare. So...does this sound like the way to upgrade from 250gb to 500gb drives on a raid 1 software raid? Or, is it back to the drawing board?

How best to allow users to change Samba passwords?

I was wondering if anyone could advise me on this. I've got two Samba servers, each using passdb.tdb for authentication. All works well, but I've now been asked to let users change their own passwords (a requirement of data secuity). What's the best way of arranging this, preferably updating both servers at the same time? thanks

ffmpeg and zoneminder install problems

CentOs zoneminder users, I have been trying to install zoneminder on Centos 5.3 (2.6.18-128.1.16.el5xen) and have hit a brick wall with ffmpeg which zoneminder has as a dependancy. There were no rpm's in centos or rpmforge so I have followed the instructions on the zoneminder website for a CentOs install. I have posted a note on the zoneminder list, but have not been able to get any takers to assist me. I am not a C programer so I have a lack of understanding as to how to proceed. I have followed the steps outlined on zoneminder site as to how to install on Centos 5.3 http://www.zoneminder.com/wiki/index.php/CentOS The sequence step I have not been able to pass beyond with these instructions is the following : svn checkout -r 11879 svn://svn.mplayerhq.hu/ffmpeg/trunk ffmpeg cd ffmpeg/ ./configure make When I execute the make command I get the following that results in an Error message. I noticed that some of you have been able to use zoneminder on Centos 5.3, Can you help me get zoneminder installed. Hi all, I am trying to rebuild RHELIPA packages downloaded from ftp.redhat.com. All goes ok except from python-psycopg2 package. Hi All, I am having issue when trying to build a custom kernel in CentOS 4.4. Current Kernel Version is 2.6.9-42.ELsmp and the server is HP Proliant DL380 G3. I downloaded the source rpm and then installed it. Gave the command, rpmbuild -bp --target=i686 /usr/src/redhat/SPECS/kernel-2.6.spec. But it throws me an error after patch operations. software raid1 syncing

hello all, I have a setup that is raid 1 and put the mirrored drive back in and now it is still showing as degraded saying: raid1: raid set md6 active with 1 out of 2 mirrors with this message on all the raids.i know i am wrong by saying this but i thought putting in the driving and rebooting would start the re syncing itself. what do i have to do to add this back in, i am so confused with this process. centos 4.x
