I have KomPozer installed, but after using M$ FrontPage for years, KomPozer looks like it is going to have a learning curve and I want to get away from FrontPage and Windows. I know Mark (MHR) uses SeaMonkey. Wondering if there is anything else I can use on Linux that is easier on a FrontPage user. I found this article: <http://webdesign.about.com/od/htmleditors/tp/aatpwyslinux.htm> when I googled. Recommendations? TIA!

module-info vs pci.ids

Hello - It's been sooooo long since I've tried hacking the kickstart media to include an updated driver but I guess that time has come again for me at least, getting an updated "igb" driver into the CentOS 5.2 installation for a HP DL165G5p(I'm not ready yet for CentOS 5.3). Anyways, I had a pretty basic question, I added a bunch of entries into the pci.ids file that were not there previously that came with the newer driver, including: 10a7 82575EB Gigabit Network Connection 10a9 82575EB Gigabit Backplane Connection 10c9 82576 Gigabit Network Connection 10d6 82575GB Gigabit Network Connection 10e6 82576 Gigabit Network Connection 10e7 82576 Gigabit Network Connection 10e8 82576 Gigabit Network Connection 150a 82576NS Gigabit Network Connection This particular network chipset is a "10c9" When looking at the module-info file for the igb driver I see: igb eth "Intel 82575EB Gigabit Network/Backplane Connection" Which does not match the description for 10c9 which is "82575EB Gigabit Backplane Connection", the closest match I can find in the pci.ids file is: 10a7 82575EB Gigabit Network Connection Do I need to change the module-info so it recognizes the 10c9 driver as matching igb? I believe I inserted the driver correctly into the modules file though the installer doesn't detect the NIC right away, it takes me to the driver selection screen which I choose igb and tell it to load, then it tells me no driver found... BUT If I hit ALT-F4 I see the correct driver loading and it shows eth0/eth1 is there. screen shot: http://portal.aphroland.org/~aphro/driver.png However despite that the installer refuses to continue. This is the first driver I've inserted that had different descriptions for the various devices/pci IDs, so I suspect this may be the issue. Or if I can add another entry in module-info for the same driver with the alternate description or just change the description in pci.ids. thanks nate

server is always getting hacked

WE have a centos 5.3 install, and our server is keep getting hacked. We see load averages of 500+ and see people from all over the world logging into our server (used last). Is there a good place to start to avoid these kinds of things? For example, here is what I already did. Open up sshd port only setup iptables to only accept port 80 and 22 No FTP No other ports are allowed according to IP Tables. I am not sure what else measures I can take. Can someone please assist? TIA

Partitionning for future.

Hi all, I have a disk of 146Gb in a machine intended to have mainly mysql database, apache and some web data. I didn't use LVM for / and /boot during the installtion Could I extend easily in the future the /var partition when I add another disk? Anaconda-runtime and busybox-anaconda src rpms

Configure a local DNS caching nameserver: partial success

Hi, The subject says it all. On my "server" machine in the local LAN (192.168.1.252 in a 192.168.1.0/24 network), I setup Bind. I installed the 'caching-nameserver' package, which provides a set of configuration files for Bind so it can be used as a caching nameserver out of the box. On the server : I start bind (service named start), and try it out. # host www.google.fr 127.0.0.1 Using domain server: Name: 127.0.0.1 Address: 127.0.0.1#53 Aliases: www.google.fr is an alias for www.google.com. www.google.com is an alias for www.l.google.com. www.l.google.com has address 209.85.227.99 www.l.google.com has address 209.85.227.103 www.l.google.com has address 209.85.227.104 www.l.google.com has address 209.85.227.147 Which tells me basically that my DNS server works. Now I'd like all the other machines on the network to use this local DNS server instead of my ISP's DNS. First thing, I know Bind uses port 53, so I take care to open that port on the server as well as on the other machines in the network. Then, I try to use my local DNS server manually on one of the machines, but I only get this : $ host www.google.fr 192.168.1.252 ;; connection timed out; no servers could be reached Since I'm rather new to Bind, this leaves me a bit clueless. I'm currently busy reading "DNS & Bind" from O'Reilly, but this 750 page book is ideal for blocking my terrace door on windy days, and the problem is not absence, but wealth of information. Any suggestions ? Niki

CentOS and Redhat Directory Server

I have implemented LDAP on CentOS successfully using Redhat's Directory Server and the great how-to on the CentOS wiki. Being new to LDAP, I have a question and maybe one of you guys can point me in the right direction: I have LDAP implemented on the network for logins to the workstation pcs. I also have an apache website that I now use LDAP for authentication. What I want, however, is to be able to allow a group of users to authenticate to the apache website, but not be able to login to any of the systems directly nor via ssh. Any suggestions or pointers in the right direction on where to read up on how to accomplish this specific task would be much appreciated. Thanks, Giovanni
