Hi Ralph I received this e-mail from Fedora Infrastructure list. My problem at that moment was a proper syntax for the jigdo-file command. Using the their script as reference, I made a simpler one to test the command[1]. I don't know if there is a better way to test, but what I did was to create a centos.conf in /etc/httpd/conf.d[2]. Note the "function jigdofy()" in the top that may just help you get the syntax right. Note the double slash in the two directories passed to the "jigdo-file make-template" command, which functions as a delimiter for jigdo-file, so that in the --label parameter, we can 'label' the path and then attach a URI (--uri) to be used in the resulting .jigdo file instead. $1 is the (fully qualified) path to the .iso image, $2 is the base architecture for the .iso image (i386, x86_64 or ppc in our case), and ${version} is the Fedora $releasever (9 or 10 right now). Also note that /data/os/distr/fedora is a local, full mirror and that /data/os/archive/fedora is a local, full archive (with package files that have been removed from the mirror because for example they've expired and have been superseeded by another update to said package). LVM, SATA controllers and BIOS devices

So I have an issue with CentOS 5.3 i386, LVM, and SATA. Boot device is a 200GB ATA disk on hda2. I've added a couple of disks with the on-the-mobo SATA controller ports and grown the EXT3 fs with system-config-lvm. Then, as an experiment, I added a PCI SATA controller and an additional disk. Ran system-config-lvm, added the new space to the existing VolGroup00, and all was good. Feeling confident, I shut the box down and plugged another disk in to the PCI SATA controller. On reboot, I was greeted with a kernel panic since the OS could not find "really-long-label." Removing the new SATA disk did not fix the issue. Digging about a bit with the box booted from CD in rescue mode, it appears that the LVM filesystem is intact, but the BIOS device letters (sda, sdb, sdc, etc) are scrambled in the LVM configuration somehow. After running "lvm pv<something>" I figured out that the BIOS drive letters currently assigned don't match what's in /etc/lvm/backup, archive, and so on. Obviously there's some way to read the VolGroup info from the disks, since "linux rescue" can mount the volume VolGroup00. I've tired vgrestore, but I'm still getting a kernel panic on boot from disk. What's the best way to get the LVM/BIOS config sorted out so that the system can boot up? Thanks for any hints. --Chris

CentOS 5.3 installation on HP DL380 R05 server

Hi All I will need to install CentOS 5.3 on HP DL380 R05 server with RAID-1 required. I am a newbie to CentOS / HP servers, need your help: - Does CentOS 5.3 work smoothly with HP DL380 server especially recognizing SAS disks and hardware RAID-1 features? From you experience, do you have to use HP Storage Drivers provided for RedHat Enterprise Linux 5? - How is HP hardware RAID-1's performance? Should I use HP's hardware RAID or software RAID in this case? Thanks a lot and looking forward to your answers. High CPU usage by lftp

Greetings, I have written a script using lftp to mirror one directory from a ftp site. I do not have access to the server except for being a humble user. This is running on a fully updated Centos 5.3 box. I am using whatever is provided by the repositories. I noticed that lftp consumes almost all of cpu times I found this while searching for a solution. http://www.mail-archive.com/lftp%40uniyar.ac.ru/msg02101.html Could it be this reason? if its not has anybody else observed what I have described? What are the possible ways of getting around . I am using --parallel=10 in the mirror sub-command of lftp TIA Rajagopal

yum dependency problem on 5.3

I tried a few variations though didn't figure out the exact syntax(so used to perl regex) to match exactly 1 number at the end of the line. nate

I need a little help, trying to search for a line that begins with /dev and ends with a single digit that I will choose, like 5. I can search for ^/dev and 5$ but I am having trouble forming the combined search pattern using egrep. Any ideas? Thanks! jlc

I've copied the xorg.conf from the working system to the failing one, and got the same result. Thanks for the tips on the KVM - it hadn't occurred to me that it could be a problem. When I can get to rip the place up, I'll attach the monitor directly to the machine and see if that solves it. iso creation with dd

I placed a CD in a drive. I ran sudo dd sudo dd if=/dev/cdrom of=HMI_B_Image_File_4-23-09_disk_1.iso It completed. I then transferred the ISO file to an XP machine, use Sonic to burn the ISO file to another CD, and there was a file missing (the largest) in the burned CD. Seems like the data got transferred through the dd, but not a file name. What might I be doing wrong? === Al
