Folks, I fully understand the emotional need to respond to one who throws around terms like "Communist", "Tyrannical", etc. even if ostensibly framed as a rhetorical question. Certain terms and phrases are by nature pejorative and I;m sure the OP knew this when he entered his post. My feeling was the OP is either an ignorant, unappreciative, self-centered, and emotionally immature person that expects all projects and activities to meet his desires, wants and criteria, _or_ he is trolling. In either case, any response you provide will be obviously wasted as the OP's POV will likely not be affected. Therefore, you waste your time responding. Trolls, if not fed, eventually die or wander off into the distance. Please don't feed the trolls. MHO -- Bill

nfs mounted /home and selinux

I'm trying to set the context on an nfs mounted /home. I believe exactly like in Redhat's Deployment Guide at http://www.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/5.2/html/Deployme… On my system running CentOS 5.2: $ ls -alZ /home drwxr-xr-x root root system_u:object_r:home_root_t . drwxr-xr-x root root system_u:object_r:root_t .. $ mount -t nfs -o context=user_u:object_r:user_home_dir_t \ server001a:/vol/vol01/home /home $ ls -alZ /home drwxrwxr-x root root system_u:object_r:nfs_t . drwxr-xr-x root root system_u:object_r:root_t .. drwx------ fred users system_u:object_r:nfs_t fred drwx------ mike users system_u:object_r:nfs_t mike drwx------ alice users system_u:object_r:nfs_t alice $ mount -l server001a:/vol01/home on /home type nfs (rw,context="user_u:object_r:user_home_dir_t:s0",addr=10.1.1.11) Shouldn't the users be set to user_u:object_r:user_home_dir_t? I feel like I am missing something simple... I don't see any avc or related syslog messages and the nfs server is an older netapp if that matters. thanks, marc

resize LVM (ext3)

Hello guys, my scenario is following 1. I have LVM group named "system" 2. I have a logical volumes - system/root , ext3 mounted as / (20GB) - system/swap, swap - system/home, ext3 mounted as /home (431GB) I need to shrink system/home to 80GB (currently there is 57GB used) and use free space to create another logical volumes. My scenario is 1. reduce ext3 fs size to 80GB by using resize2s 2. reduce system/home size by using lvreduce 3. create another logical volumes Questions 1. How can i be sure that i will shrink ext3 to exact size 80GB and that the same will lvreduce do? I do not want to cut from ext3 filesystem if i will reduce logical volume too much 2. Can you please send me commands to achieve 1) and 2) part of my scenario? 3. Or can i just use lvreduce and my ext3 will shrink automatically? 4. Do i need to umount system/home when resizing? Apparently no swap configured

Desktop Choice Centos 4/Centos 5 or Fedora 9

I have a choice of CentOS 4/5 and Fedora 9 on a laptop. I have not use CentOS 5 on a desktop but have used CentOS 4 and Fedora 9. I found the Fedora Gnome not as appealing as the CentOS 4 clearlooks. Any opinions from someone who has used CentOS 4/5 and Fedora? I'm not a KDE fan so KDE users need not reply. Regards, Vandaman.

We are seeing very similar behavior. It has gotten better since we complained to IX but we still see a significant lag the first time the site loads. The fast load on subsequent visits could be explained by Drupal doing some caching of needed items so it doesn't have to go to the database. The initial site load time became much more noticeable after IX took some kind of hit on their DB server. All we know is the site suddenly couldn't connect to the database, they fixed something on their end and the database came back but we've had the long lag for first load ever since. no network kernel boot option

I am looking for a kernel boot option that specifies "nonetwork" I have found in searching the nousb - nopcmcia etc.... but I have not found one for nonetwork. Is there one and what is it called? Thanks, Jerry

changing partition priority on install

Greetings. I am in the process of installing 5.1 64 bit on a server. The server has 2 3ware cards: 9550SX 12 port, and a 8006 2 port, both SATA. I want the 8006 board to be /dev/sda, and the 9550 to be /dev/sdb. My plan is to install the os on /dev/sda (8006), and data on /dev/sdb (9550). Unfortunately, the 9550 comes up as /dev/sda. The 8006 is installed in slot 3, which is a 100Mhz slot. The 9550 is installed in Slot 4, which is a 133Mhz slot. I really don't want to put the 9550 in the 100Mhz slot. I'm not even sure it would make a difference... I would also prefer to not have grub reside on /dev/sda, while the os is on /dev/sdb. I have tried to change the boot priority in bios, but this hasn't changed the priority. I tried to disable one of the boards in the bios, but that didn't seem to have any effect. Interestingly enough, when I boot with the Knoppix 5.1.1 live cd, the cards show up as I want them to. I have searched Google, but I am either entering the wrong search parameters, or there isn't anything out there, at least pertaining to the initial installation. Any ideas are appreciated. RHEL 5.3 Beta released, beta-testers needed

Hi all, The CentOS community is pretty limited in what we can do to the core distribution. Since our mantra is "aiming to be 100% compatible with Red Hat Enterprise Linux" we cannot fix bugs or improve the CentOS core without waiting for Red Hat to make those modifications first. We have limited leverage and a 6-month release cycle against us. But that is not the complete truth, Red Hat usually has an internal, a vendor and a public beta period and everything that is found within that time-frame might get fixed before it is being shipped (and frozen) for the next 6 months. Today RHEL 5.3 Beta was announced with a lot of interesting improvements. https://www.redhat.com/archives/rhelv5-announce/2008-October/msg00000.html So if we can improve the testing during the RHEL Beta program, everyone in the CentOS community directly benefits from that as well. Therefor it makes a lot of sense to encourage the large CentOS community to take part in the RHEL Beta program and help with improving the next CentOS releases. (You don't need my back patting, start already !)
