Question regarding hardened-php

Hi all, Please forgive what may be an OT question: I'm considering using hardened php and am interested in any comments which may be offered regarding hardened php and CentOS5. For reference: http://www.hardened-php.net/hardening_patch.14.html Is hardened php available as an RPM from any of our fine CentOS repositories? If not, I'd feel less inclined to use it as it affects core areas of the distro. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or comments, ~Ray

GDM problems whe using LDAP for user id information

Hi all, I have a CentOS-5 workstation configured to retrieve user id information from LDAP server and password from another kerberos server. If I setup a user entry on /etc/passwd file all works ok, user can logon on GDM and password is verifiyed via kerberos. But If I use LDAP to retrieve user information, GDM doesn't works. On the other side, I can login on console using ldap for user information. GDM returns this error on /var/log/secure: Nov 5 13:45:40 deagol gdm[2484]: pam_unix(gdm:auth): check pass; user unknown Nov 5 13:45:40 deagol gdm[2484]: pam_unix(gdm:auth): authentication failure; logname= uid=0 euid=0 tty=:0 ruser= rhost= Nov 5 13:45:40 deagol gdm[2484]: pam_succeed_if(gdm:auth): error retrieving information about user testuser And on /var/log/messages: Nov 5 13:45:41 deagol gdm[2484]: Couldn't authenticate user All other services that I use with ldap (ssh for example) works ok. Sendmail failing on home machine

I have a CentOS 5 machine at home, behind a NAT gateway. Among other things, I'm running mdadm in monitor mode to alert me to RAID failures. I want it to send messages to my main email address. Any messages I send from the home CentOS box to that email address are being rejected with this error: Deferred: 451 Could not complete sender verify callout My understanding is that the destination mail server is trying to connect back to the source email host via SMTP as an anti-spam check and is failing. My external IP is set up with a dynamic DNS entry, so I guess I could set up an MX record and actually receive mail on the home box, but I don't want to deal with the security issues or the spam. Any suggestions for allowing sendmail-dependent apps running on the home machine to be able to send mail? Thanks. -Pete

recommendation for rpm packaged forum/bb software for centos 5?

Subject says it all- has anyone got any recommendations for rpm-packaged forum/bb software for CentOS 5 - preferrably from a repo like rpmforge or similar so it will get updates as they come through? Yes, I can install phpBB et al from scratch but I with 'yum update' it is harder for me to miss updates :-) -- Cheers, Tony

A Working 64 bit Browser Plugin - at Last!!

FYI: Upon installing 64 bit firefox on RHEL 5/Centos5/SAL5 , the first problem everyone seems to complain about is no working java plugin. A patched plugin from the <discontinued> Blackdown Project was available, but it was written against the vulnerable JRE 1.4.2. I too gave up on this until I discovered Red Hat's "iced tea" project. The latest incantation for Fedora Core 8 loaded well on a RHEL5 box using rpm's: java-1.7.0-icedtea-1.7.0.0-0.19.b21.snapshot.fc8.x86_64.rpm java-1.7.0-icedtea-plugin-1.7.0.0-0.19.b21.snapshot.fc8.x86_64.rpm tzdata-java-2007h-1.fc8.noarch.rpm Then do: alternatives --config java and select the new 1.7 JRE. Usually FC8 stuff doesn't install well on RHEL5/Centos5/SAL5 boxes. However, these worked like a charm SO FAR. [ Note, if you try these, uninstall all of your firefox extensions first because some of them have the potential to create the infamous XBL error message for non-root users]. After installation, navigate to Sun's java site and test using their applets to make sure you installed correctly. YMMV. May cause loss of some functionality elsewhere in the system. If you browse for more then four continuous hours you may have contracted site fixation disease, contact your physician at once. regards, benm

mrepo and groups

Hi all, I have a little trouble with mrepo: yum groups doesn't seem to be setup correctly; if I do "yum grouplist" it only gives me Installed Groups: Yum Utilities Available Groups: FreeNX and NX XFCE-4.4 Horde Did I forget something on the mrepo.conf or similar? tia Lorenzo Quatrini
