Trying to create a custom initrd that will work with PXE Booting

Hi, I am trying to create a custom initrd that will work with PXE Booting on CentOS release 4.5 (Final) and Fedora Core 6. Can anyone point me to some documentation that will help with this ? The specific situation is that we have received some machines that need the latest e1000 Driver from Intel in order to detect the network card. If I install the systems without network and then do rpmbuild -tb e1000-7.6.9.tar.gz a RPM is built and can be installed, and the Network card works fine as soon as you load the new e1000 Module. But we could be receiving a number of these systems so a Kickstart installation is required. I have tried installing the version of the kernel uses during kick start installs and then creating and installing the e1000 rpm and then updating the pxe initrd with the version of e1000.ko that is created but still the the card isn't detected. Another thing I have tried is creating a respin using Pungi and then using the PXE images that this generates but still no joy. I do know that the Card works fine with CentOS 5 and Fedora 7. Aside from upgrading to these does anyone have any suggestions? :) Thanks

trying to follow the ha-drbd HOWTO on the centos wiki... I prep two identical systems with centos 5, leaving some disk space unassigned (they only have one scsi drive), create /dev/sda4 partitions on each to use for the repdata... I install the modules, create a /etc/drbd.conf like... Do I have to use a physical device (/dev/sdb in the example) instead of a partition?

Offtopic: help with an iPod

A friend bring and Ipod, initially it didn't start because of charge, so I connected to my PC to give some charge, after that my linux didn't mount it, and when I start the iPod it shows me a folder with a sign, and that's all, nothing else matters. when I connected the iPod to the PC it start to charge and suddenly stops and shows the folder I have talked before I run the command <dmesg> and show me some error, I attach what that command show me. I can't mount the iPod neither, I want to know if is there a way to force to mount the iPod I need some help with that -- "Nuestra recompensa se encuentra en el esfuerzo y no en el resultado. Un esfuerzo total es una victoria completa". I've been downloading a software for a friend with wget, but as my connexion to internet is not so good, wget downloaded in three parts by example: SetupDxLabelMakerSoftonic.exe SetupDxLabelMakerSoftonic.exe.1 SetupDxLabelMakerSoftonic.exe.1.1 My question is: Is there any way to join all of this or Do I have to download that again? Hosed my software RAID/LVM setup somehow

CentOS 5, original kernel (xen and normal) and everything, Linux RAID 1. I rebooted one of my machines after doing some changes to RAID/LVM and now the two RAID partitions that I made changes to are "gone". I cannot boot into the system. On bootup it tells me that the devices md2 and md3 are busy or mounted and drops me to the repair shell. When I run fs check manually it just tells me the same. mdadm --misc --detail tells me that md2 and md3 are active and fine. I wanted to comment out the md2 and md3 devices in fstab (and hoped then be able to boot) but I get a "read-only" warning when writing to it although mount tells me that / is mounted rw. What can I do to boot into the system (the system is on /dev/md1 and seems to be fine) or repair it? The history of the changes is as follows. Originally I had several software-RAID 1 partitions /boot / /home /home2 on /dev/md0 etc. At the time of creation I didn't know I could use LVM on RAID partitions. Yesterday I activated LVM on md2 and md3 as they didn't contain anything valuable and put some data on them. What I did is unmount, then remove from RAID, then initialized LVM, then created the RAID devices again, then created the Volume Groups and Volumes, added mount points etc. All succeeded without errors and was working well thereafter. I worked several hours with data and xen virtual machines on the LVM partitions. The LVM management was done with the LVM manager in Gnome (as I'm not very familiar with LVM), the other stuff was done in a terminal. I assume something is wrong with the LVM setup or LVM doesn't start at all. What/how can I check? Thanks. SMART Prefailure Attribute messages

Hello, My machine is running Software RAID 5 on /dev/hde1, /dev/hdg1,/dev/hdi1. k3b 1.0.3, qt and C5 64-bit?

I have C5 64-bit running on my laptop and am trying to get k3b 1.0.3 compiled from source. It keeps complaining about qt not being installed or available. I performed a yum install of everything qt, but it still complains. I've read some postings on various web pages about creating symlinks, but although tried, that still didn't fix any problems. What am I missing? Thhanks. Scott

KDE 1.0.3 and kdelibs problem

I'm able to get ./configure to get past the Qt error but now it complains that kdelibs isn't installed, or the version of qt doesn't match kdelibs. Everything was yum installed, and this is on CentOs 5 64-bit. Thanks for additional configuration help. Scott

how to protect RT repository?

I'm following the instructions on this URL http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/RT_3.4.x_On_CentOS_4.x and came across the part that said "WARNING: RT overwrites some packages from the base distribution, especially mod_perl" How exactly do I "protect" the RT repository? It links to the "ProtectBase" program http://wiki.centos.org/PackageManagement/Yum/ProtectBase ...but what do I mod to protect this RT repository?
