Display resolution problem on Centos 4.5

I've got a Centos 4.5 box at work (installed at 4.0 and kept up to date) that's having a really weird problem I haven't been able to figure out. It's been doing on for a loong time but today it just got my goat and I spent some bit of time fighting with it, unsuccessfully. /etc/X11/xorg.conf specifies that the display resolution should be 1280x1024. When root logs in it is. when a user named 'interface' logs in it is. When I log in with my normal login, 'fredex', it isn't. I get 1152x864. when I look at the "screen resolution" utility on the preferences menu it says 1280x1024. when I look at the "display" utility on the "system settings" menu it says 1280x1024. but using the monitor's OSD settings, the monitor says it's 1152x864. I CAN force it to 1280x1024 by using 'xrandr', and it then works fine at that resolution until I log in the next time. I'm left to conclude that at some point in the murky past that I must have done SOMETHING in Gnome that causes Gnome to somehow mess with the resolution when I login but not when other users do. But I've been reading the Centos forums, the Red Hat Knowledgebase, and the FAQs at gnome.org, and none of them has shed any light on this issue. Can any of you help please? DocX support in OpenOffice

Has anyone got the docx plugin for OpenOffice 2 running in CentOS? I have tried using the OpenOffice.org rpms and the ones in CentOS, but the plugin does not seem to work. To get it working I extracted the rpm from Novell, then copied the files to the registry/ folders and the Odfconverter to the program/ folder, but I can't get any ooxml files open at all, it gives me an error about the file being invalid and having to recover, but all that the recovery gets is an empty file. I have tried with the official RPMs versions 2.0 and 2.2 and the CentOS RPMs for 2.0. I have also tried hardcoding the path to where the files are, instead of using a relative path, but to no avail. The same procedure works perfectly with Ubuntu 7.04. Any suggestions? (My apologies if the question has already been answered, I could not find it in my email using the search in Yahoo mail). CentOS 5 centosplus kernel + kmod-gfs

On CentOS 5, the current centosplus kernel doesn't want to play with the kmod-gfs package (because kmod-gfs wants the stock kernel): # yum install kmod-gfs gives me: Transaction Check Error: package kernel-2.6.18-8.1.14.el5.centos.plus (which is newer than kernel-2.6.18-8.1.14.el5) is already installed Should it work, or is there a separate centosplus build that I've not found, or do I need to roll my own? logrotation

Dear all Salam, i have installed logrotation package in BSD, the script runs every night at 3:00 pm night and makes filename.1.gz. but when i use less command to see this gz file it says "do u want to see binary file??" through which utility i can see the contants of the file??? centos 5 irq issue

I get the following on an AM2 AMD5000+, nvidia gigabyte motherboard. Irq 169 is the USB. Anyone know why this is happening? If I install Centos 4.5 I do not get this. Changing php5 with php4 in CentOS 5

Hi, In our server CentOS 5 is installed. Some of our web pages are compatible with php4 but in centOS 5 , php5 is installed and we cannot see our pages. I want to remove php5 and install php4 but i could not find php4 rpm for CentOS 5. Can anybody help me? Thanks Can Çizer

extras and vlc

What are the chances that a package such as vlc from http://videolan.org/vlc would become included in extras? so a yum install vlc would work. Thanks, Jerry

mdadm exim mysql

I installed a CentOS-5 core OS (using --nobase in my kickstart). For some reason, it included mysql-5.0.22. When I do "yum remove mysql", it says it will also remove exim and mdadm for dependencies. I don't care that exim will be removed, but I need mdadm as I'm doing software RAID. But why are these even related? When I do: rpm -q --requires mysql neither exim or mdadm is listed as being a requirement. johnn

disabling php-cli

Hi All, Don't know if this has been covered already, but I'd like to know if there's a way to disable one of the features in php; php-cli. I've done some googling and searching through the archives but haven't found anything. The php manpage doesn't mentioned anything, nor have I seen anything on the php site in regards to this. (hoping it's not something as simple as removing the php-cli rpm, although that just might break a dependency...
