How to enable my RAID again

Hi I have setup software RAID two years ago using FC3 using the graphical installer (RAID1). In the mean time I installed CENTOS4.5 and everything is running fine. At least that was my perception. It now turns out that raid is not working and that LVS just finds 4 partitions from four disks and that's it.: /dev/sda2 VolGroup00 lvm2 a- 94.88G 0 /dev/sdb1 VolGroup00 lvm2 a- 94.94G 10.00G /dev/sdc1 VolGroup00 lvm2 a- 94.94G 74.94G /dev/sdd1 VolGroup00 lvm2 a- 94.94G 70.81G These are 4 disk of each 200GB, and the disks have these partitions: Using /dev/sda (parted) print Disk geometry for /dev/sda: 0.000-194481.000 megabytes Disk label type: msdos Minor Start End Type Filesystem Flags 1 0.031 101.975 primary ext3 boot 2 101.975 97284.243 primary lvm 3 97284.243 194474.355 primary raid Disk geometry for /dev/sdb: 0.000-194481.000 megabytes Disk label type: msdos Minor Start End Type Filesystem Flags 1 0.031 97237.177 primary boot, lvm 2 97237.178 194474.355 primary raid Disk geometry for /dev/sdc: 0.000-194481.000 megabytes Disk label type: msdos Minor Start End Type Filesystem Flags 1 0.031 97237.177 primary boot, lvm 2 97237.178 194474.355 primary raid Disk geometry for /dev/sdd: 0.000-194481.000 megabytes Disk label type: msdos Minor Start End Type Filesystem Flags 1 0.031 97237.177 primary boot, lvm 2 97237.178 194474.355 primary raid So my feeling is that I need to setup the RAID again, but I don't want to make any mistakes here, since this is a live system working fine. I tried to read the mdadm manual but it's not quit clear to me what to do. # mdadm -A --scan -v mdadm: No arrays found in config file Shows I have to do more. The previous fedora installation is still around, but is doesn't contain a /etc/mdadm.conf file. Can anyone help me with some steps to take to get it running again. I do have backups, but if things go wrong restoring takes several hours. Thanks, Theo PS. Send for the third time. apt-cacher for CentOS

Hi All, Is there something similar to apt-cacher available for CentOS? I would like to ensure that an application is only downloaded once to the network and not hundreds of times. If there isn't an equivalent, would someone please point me in the direction of how I might accomplish this with CentOS? -- James A. CentOS 5 LiveCD better than the real one?

Folks, I am terribly puzzled by an issue reported as bug 2381 [http://bugs.centos.org/view.php?id=2381] definitely an upstream bug, as it does the same under X/OS 5 and StartCom 5. Simply put: Hibernation fails with horrendous I/O errors after swsusp starts dumping to swap. What bugs me is that hibernating from the CentOS 5 LiveCD *works*!!! (on the same hardware) How could I investigate to see what is the relevant difference between the LiveCD and the installed system, WRT suspend-to-disk? It has been said that "CentOS 5 i386 Live CD is based on the ADIOS Live CD Project", but also that "CentOS Project would like to thank Patrice Guay for the creation of this CD". Who is supposed to know better about this issue? Also, how could I check if upstream has a similar bug report? I don't have any RHN acct. It's a shame that RHEL5 && clones fail to work properly with a specific laptop (Acer Travelmate 5310/5320/5710/5720 have the same architectural design), but an ad-hoc LiveCD works! Is there a command line option on grep that says count ALL occurances on a line not just the first one??? echo "jerry jerry" | grep -c jerry only returns 1 and not 2. Looking at the man page I did not see anything like that. Thanks, Jerry

problems with "yum --enablerepo=centos upgrade" command

On CentOS 4.5, I'm trying to upgrade MySQL 4 to MySQL 5. (I enabled the RPMforge with the repository protection) rpm -qa | grep mysql gives me: mysql-4.1.20-2.RHEL4.1.0.1 mysql-server-4.1.20-2.RHEL4.1.0.1 But when I try to update yum --enablerepo=centosplus upgrade mysql-server I get Loading "priorities" plugin Setting up Upgrade Process Setting up repositories Reading repository metadata in from local files 484 packages excluded due to repository priority protections Could not find update match for mysql No Packages marked for Update/Obsoletion I suspect that something here has to do with this not upgrading properly? [root@localhost bin]# rpm -qa | grep priorities yum-plugin-priorities-0.0.3-1.c4

Thanks for the info -I've been looking at the PCI LSI Mega Raids, just hard to find what model is supported in which kernel... But if CentOS 5.1 is out soon with support for the 3ware 9650 I might wait as the server it is due to replace is still going... Cheers Steve

I'm looking to troubleshoot this error when I run "tail /etc/httpd/logs/error_log" [Tue Oct 09 07:22:59 2007] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] Directory index forbidden by rule: /var/www/html/ (I get this when I run Nagios' "./check_http -H 127.0.0.1".) All I did was install CentOS and then modify httpd.conf to include "ServerName 192.168.1.10:80" and also run " htpasswd -c /etc/nagios/htpasswd.users nagiosadmin". Is this a permissions issue on my /var/www/html/ folder? I tried to get the Apache page to serve properly, and it's not doing that. And when I try from another computer, I don't see anything in the logs, which made me think it was an IPTABLES issue (which it doesn't appear to be).
